External Drive "Unformats" Between Enclosures?

I recently bought 2 new Seagate ST2000DL003 drives, to compliment the 2 I currently had in a Mediasonic Probox 4 bay enclosure. I first booted and formatted the drives via a USB 2.0 to SATA adapter from Cables To Go to check for any strange noises. Both drives passed, so I put them in my Probox to replace 2 1TB WD Black drives. Turned the box on, my original drives were still there, running fine, but my new ones needed to be formatted again. WTF?

I've swapped both drives back and forth several times, between the USB cable and the Probox and the data is always intact, as long as connected to the same device that formatted it. All 4 other drives work just fine in either setup.

I dug up an old Kingwin USB2.0/eSATA enclosure and found that a drive formatted in the Probox works just fine in the Kingwin and vice versa (both connected via eSATA), but the adapter cable to either enclosure, or either enclosure to the cable = reformat. It seems like the issue might be going from eSATA to USB 2.0, but I don't understand why, especially considering all my other drives work fine regardless.

I'm sorry if this is a mess to read, it's a mess to deal with as well. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

So after I broke into my desktop (was, and currently still am using a laptop) and hooked the eSATA formatted drive up, it worked fine. Formatted it again (just to be safe) and removed it. Both eSATA enclosures recognize it, even if hooked up via USB 2.0, but the Cables To Go cable just will NOT read it at all. It seems like a defect in the cable I guess, but why do my other drives still work fine on it?

My problem's fixed I guess, but if anyone has any insight, I'd still love to hear it as I'm still quite confused.
