I have a desktop PC and need to connect an additional graphics card (PCIe Gen 5 interface) to it, but there is no room inside the desktop PC for this additional graphics card. I heard there is a type of device called external GPU dock. Can you please give a solution (what things I need to buy) to connect the graphics card externally? PS, The desktop PC is running Ubuntu. Please make sure the solution works from hardware installation to driver installation on Ubuntu. Thanks.

Please list the specs to your build like so:
CPU:
CPU cooler:
Motherboard:
Ram:
SSD/HDD:
GPU:
PSU:
Chassis:
OS:
Monitor:
include the age of the PSU apart from it's make and model.

Can you please give a solution (what things I need to buy) to connect the graphics card externally?
You should include your location and your budget.

If your platform lacks a Thunderbolt connection, I wouldn't bother. On a side note, why do you need a secondary discrete GPU?

What are needed from the desktop, like Thunderbolt? Let me know and I will check it out.

Easiest fix: replace the PC case.

This way, you have more internal room inside the PC case, where you can slot the new (bigger) GPU in. Without messing with the eGPU, riser cables, powering GPU etc.

If you are unsure which PC case to go exactly, look for full-tower ATX cases. Those have ample room for even the biggest GPUs.

However, if your desktop PC is Dell prebuilt, things get more difficult. Since Dell is knowing to make proprietary MoBos, that does not fit into standard ATX cases.
