I Just want to know if you can hook up a external gpu to a PC or desktop not a laptop and if so do you have to just get a external gpu adapter and a gpu and them up and then hook the adapter to the PC? thanks in advance

can you specify more jbaker and ffg7 i want to use a external video card cause i have a integrated chip in mine and i dont have any slots available for another one. Isnt pcie the thing you connect the monitor to the pc with. I do have a 3.0 usb port which im pretty sure is used for the graphics card to run efficiently. oh and for the air flow i dont know my fan is VERY slow i downloaded something that tells me all about my computer and it says my fan is a 27rpm and i cant hear it at all but it never heats up when im playing games it has 3 vents one in back 1 on side and one on top

scratch out the fan is going 27 rpm i saw it and its going faster than 27 rpm but its small and its going not that fast but i think its fine as long as a external graphics card doesnt catch my pc on fire

You'll see people sometimes use an external GPU on a laptop through the Express Card slot, which you wouldn't have on your desktop. There are USB adapters that are sometimes used on laptops to get video to a second monitor, but those aren't there to replace an actual GPU. You haven't given us much information to work with, but it looks like you're trying to make a PC that's completely unsuitable for gaming into one that is, which tends to be a fool's errand.

You will need enough of these to reach a box to hold the gpu. Pcie is the connector from the motherboard to the gpu (inside the case). I recommend spending $30 on a new case.

He said he had no PCI-E slots available on his PC.

To OP, no you can't. USB3 isn't fast enough really to run a GPU properly
