I recently added an external harddrive to my Dell computer. It recognized the
drive and named it (G). My daughter later connected an I pod to the computer
and it renamed the external hard drive (H). Even after disconnecting the
external hard drive, rebooting and reconnecting the external hard drive it
still is named (H). Why? Can I change it back to (G)? How? If not she has to
re designate all the tunes on her I pod.

Change it in Disk Management. Start, Help and Support, Disk Management.
