I would download the WD Lifeguard Diagnostic program from HERE and run both the quick and extended tests. Note the instructions for use on that page.

If it passes the drive is okay, just corrupted from the disconnect during a write. If it passes the tests, I would use the WD program to do a full erase, then reinitialize using disk management.

Well, there could be various reasons for drive to become unresponsive or undetected. It can be a hardware issue or some technical glitch in the software.

Below are the few possible reasons for any drive being unresponsive:

 Lot of bad sectors
 Infected File (Virus or Malware)
 Driver issue
 Mechanical failure

You can try the below options to resolve the issue:

 Run CHKDSK
 Use an Antivirus & Anti-Malware tool
 Re-install the drivers
