So a family member gave me a WD 1TB usb HDD to fix. She had no idea what was wrong with it, it just suddenly stopped working.

As soon as i plugged it in, windows made the usb device plug in noise and all seemed normal.
Then i noticed that in file explorer there was no bar underneath the name of the disk showing the amount of storage the disk had.
When I clicked on the drive, the green bar at the top of file explorer to the left of 'search this PC' would load almost to the end and get stuck.
I also noticed that when i tried to right click the dive to go into it's properties or to format the drive nothing would happen.
I went into disk management and the 1TB disk was not showing.
I installed WD Data Lifeguard Diagnostic for Windows and it wasn't able to detect the drive.
Going into bios the WD drive was showing under the list of disks.
I have tried different cables and all have had the same result.
When the HDD is spun up it has no clicking or other odd noises.
When I run CHKDSK on the drive it comes up with 'Can not open volume for direct access'
When I entered Task manager and into the performance tab, the HDD was showing but it was at a constant 100% usage, It was able to show that the drive is 932GB. Read and Write speeds are at 0, and system disk and page file are no.
when i go to control pannel and then into devices the HDD shows up and 'Status' shows 'driver error' Window can not find drivers for the HDD

I am clueless at this point any help to try and help me diagnose and fix this HDD would be greatly appreciated

so I've managed to get the HDD out of the case and I've connected the HDD to my PC through SATA. Everything is the same apart from the fact that disk management will not load, and will only show a grey screen.
