Hey people, I bought an extra harddisk, a maxtor 20,4 gig..

I placed it right next to the other disk:

but now my system hangs when I put the cover on, nut when I leave it off it works good (the disk does get hot cause its pretty close to the the one)

do I need to place an extra cooler or anything ? Suggestions?

thanks in advance

From the picture and the description, it looks like it is alright. Try to space them out as far as possible if you can.
Also, what's the temperature reading on your CPU, as well as the reading inside the case?

My hard drives are like that, and I haven't had any problems yet. What kind of case fans do you have?

Apple? Macintosh? What are these strange words you speak?

Hmm well I have a cooler on the cpu and the one on the power supply and thats about it...the disk feel warm, warmer then the one that has always bin in there, so maybe it is because he is in the middle..will this harm the disk ?
My cpu temperature is 45 degrees celcius, and the system mostly round 30/50

Maybe an extra fan and more space will help ?

Or is it doing strange things cause I have an Athlon with a power supply that is less than 300 watts ? I heard that can cause trouble too ?

Just make sure that power supply you're using is AMD approved.

What's the load on your system? Devices and such. Since it's not having problems with the case open, I highly doubt it's a wattage problem. Again, is it AMD approved?

You've got plenty of room in there. I'd venture to guess that something's wrong with the hard drive. Take it back and get another before you commit too much data to this one or you get past the point where you can return it.
Oh, and I'd catch that guy who sprayed the red paint circle in there and kick his ass!

Sweating like a rancid chunk of pork

Well a normal computer store, I gave them a list of hardware, eich they had on a list, they assambled it, never had anny trouble with the system, accept now. I now gave the disks more space between them, wich was some work with those short cables (I am going to buy longer ones) and am now testing to see how it runs. It goes pretty good !
