Extreme specs for gaming pc

Ok I am ready to spend up to 10 grand on the ultimate gaming pc.

What do you guys think are the ultimate specs available and i want to build it with the ability to upgrade parts as i go. Basically i don't want an out-dated monster in 12 months ( i realise this is unrealistic but as much as you can suggest something based on this i would appreciate it)

These are the specs i have, but am open to better if you can suggest them

Waste of money. And a horrible build.

CPU: Ditch the i7-940 for the i7-920 and overclock.

PSU: You don't need a 1300W PSU. 850W would be fine for just about everything. Stick with Corsair, Antec, OCZ, Seasonic or PC Power & Cooling for quality.

Cooler: Coolermaster Hyper 212. Cheaper and better.

Mobo: For $20 less, you can get a great board with USB 3/SATA III support: Asus P6X58D Premium.

RAM: Mushkin Enhanced Redline 6GB (3 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 CAS Latency 6

HDD (boot): VRs are stupid. Get an SSD or leave it out.

HDD (data): Samsung Spinpoint F3 1 TB. The 7200.11 had a terrible time of actually working. This regular drive is actually as fast as those crappy VRs at 1/3 of the price (not to mention 3x the size)

GPU: nVidia sucks right now. Get an HD 5970 for $650. It is the most powerful thing every made, and will not need to be Crossfired for well over 4 years. Or waste your money (which you seem to be wanting to do) and get 2 of them.

Seconding MadAdmiral's suggestions.

If you're really interested in spending a lot of money, get 2x 5970s and CrossFire them, though you might want to go a little larger on the PSU (but not to 1300 W) in that case.

And yes, go for an SSD over the Velociraptors, they are an order of magnitude faster.

You could always spend a lot on a crazy case too, if you're really trying to spend. The Thermaltake Level 10 doesn't have the greatest reviews, but it looks neat and it costs a lot.

Great thanks. the rest of the specs are ok? I assume there are compatibility optimization issues as well. I'm not a computer expert, but i guess you can't just get the best ranked parts and throw them together and get the so called ultimate machine. plus it's frustrating when you put together the top of the line for jan 2010, and in april 2010 it's out of date. i realise thats' just how technology works but wish i had a better idea on how to catch the more sustainable technologies...ie stuff as you said in last pont, won't be outdated in 12 months.

If you care that much about being outdated, I suggest you stop using a computer. Everything out right now will be outdated next year. Hell, your lucky if it's not outdated by the time you get it shipped...

This build will offer you excellent performance for well over 2-3 years. Maybe even top-of-the-line performance depending on what happens in the tech world. That's what really matters.

As for all the extra stuff (speakers, monitors, keyboard/mouse, etc.), I can't say one way or another if its good. I just don't have a clue on that stuff.
