Got a new laptop recently, it's a Lenovo Ideapad Gaming 3, but i'm getting random freezes and audio is popping
I used latencymon to see what's going on and i'm getting extremely high levels of latency
_
CONCLUSION
_
Your system appears to be having trouble handling real-time audio and other tasks. You are likely to experience buffer underruns appearing as drop outs, clicks or pops. One or more DPC routines that belong to a driver running in your system appear to be executing for too long. Also one or more ISR routines that belong to a driver running in your system appear to be executing for too long. At least one detected problem appears to be network related. In case you are using a WLAN adapter, try disabling it to get better results. One problem may be related to power management, disable CPU throttling settings in Control Panel and BIOS setup. Check for BIOS updates.
LatencyMon has been analyzing your system for 0:11:37 (h🇲🇲ss) on all processors.

_
MEASURED INTERRUPT TO USER PROCESS LATENCIES
_
The interrupt to process latency reflects the measured interval that a usermode process needed to respond to a hardware request from the moment the interrupt service routine started execution. This includes the scheduling and execution of a DPC routine, the signaling of an event and the waking up of a usermode thread from an idle wait state in response to that event.

Highest measured interrupt to process latency (µs): 420227.60
Average measured interrupt to process latency (µs): 55.763570

Highest measured interrupt to DPC latency (µs): 420223.50
Average measured interrupt to DPC latency (µs): 46.648393

_
REPORTED ISRs
_
Interrupt service routines are routines installed by the OS and device drivers that execute in response to a hardware interrupt signal.

Highest ISR routine execution time (µs): 33685.626594
Driver with highest ISR routine execution time: HDAudBus.sys - High Definition Audio Bus Driver, Microsoft Corporation

Highest reported total ISR routine time (%): 0.008110
Driver with highest ISR total time: Wdf01000.sys - Motor en tiempo de ejecución del marco de controlador en modo kernel, Microsoft Corporation

Total time spent in ISRs (%) 0.013960

ISR count (execution time <250 µs): 91359
ISR count (execution time 250-500 µs): 0

ISR count (execution time 1000-2000 µs): 2
ISR count (execution time 2000-4000 µs): 13
ISR count (execution time >=4000 µs): 0

_
REPORTED DPCs
_
DPC routines are part of the interrupt servicing dispatch mechanism and disable the possibility for a process to utilize the CPU while it is interrupted until the DPC has finished execution.

Highest DPC routine execution time (µs): 95914.540073
Driver with highest DPC routine execution time: dxgkrnl.sys - DirectX Graphics Kernel, Microsoft Corporation

Highest reported total DPC routine time (%): 0.076425

DPC count (execution time <250 µs): 1135439
DPC count (execution time 250-500 µs): 0
DPC count (execution time 500-10000 µs): 260
DPC count (execution time 1000-2000 µs): 45
DPC count (execution time 2000-4000 µs): 324
DPC count (execution time >=4000 µs): 1170

_
REPORTED HARD PAGEFAULTS
_
Hard pagefaults are events that get triggered by making use of virtual memory that is not resident in RAM but backed by a memory mapped file on disk. The process of resolving the hard pagefault requires reading in the memory from disk while the process is interrupted and blocked from execution.

NOTE: some processes were hit by hard pagefaults. If these were programs producing audio, they are likely to interrupt the audio stream resulting in dropouts, clicks and pops. Check the Processes tab to see which programs were hit.

Process with highest pagefault count: msmpeng.exe

Total number of hard pagefaults 45023
Hard pagefault count of hardest hit process: 14298
Number of processes hit: 134

Solution

I did the Nvidia thing, not that mine was bad before, but it could have helped
7fdsWPf.jpg

what he calls good is higher than mine.

if you do anything in registry, backup first - https://neosmart.net/wiki/backup-restore-registry/

All you can do is try.
it could be fine. it could just be a bad install.

linux works on it, so maybe 10 will as well. Curious what you do about a key.

download the Windows 10 media creation tool and use it to make a win 10 installer on USB

boot from installer**

follow this guide: https://forums.tomshardware.com/faq/how-to-do-a-clean-installation-of-windows-10.3170366/

when you get to point where it asks for a key, choose "I don't have one" and windows will continue to install, we worry about activation if it works.

**if you in win 11, easiest way to boot from USB

Put USB in drive
is to go to settings/system/recovery
next to Advanced startup, click restart now
Loads into a blue menu
Choose Use a device
pick USB from list and it will restart PC and run from USB

Let me know how you go :)

let me know if you need any help

Thank you so much :)

I'll try and ofc I'll let you know, thanks for being there and answering quickly

I will try that, for how long should I stay on the Bios after the 5 minutes
I would just leave it for a hour or so. Generally, people see this problem on laptops that are set to sleep quickly to save battery life. it is one of the more confusing issues that people have that can "magically" disappear on its own. It gets worse as the drive gets full, or the pagefile.sys starts to have issues.

if you have a solid state drive, clean up file space, turn off virtual memory, reboot and turn it back on (to delete pagefile.sys). Then boot into bios and leave the system powered on but not running windows. After 5 minutes the SSD will run its firmware clean up routines and do its drive repairs. These can get blocked in some cases while windows is running.

I would also see if disconnecting from the internet for 300 seconds has the same effect. (it is the tcp/ip default wait timeout for connections) something that netstat.exe -a -b
would show
I'll try it tonight, if not then I'll go with Windows 10

Tried it, audio still pops, no freezing for now at least. I will like to add that I can listen to the pops even when I have headphones on, I don't know why I didn't say that before.

are headphones attached to laptop?

I don't know if it has any significance.

So did the drive thing help or are we just in a good time before it stutters again?
They are connected via jack (I don't remember if it is 2,5 or 3,5), I should try with bluetooth headphones maybe?

For now no freezings, I don't know if the drivers did something tbh, as I told you they happened randomly after a restart.

I wonder...

the Lenovo people reinstalled Nvidia drivers, wonder if they changes settings

right click desktop
choose show more actions
open Nvidia control panel
3d settings
power management mode - set it to Prefer maximum performance
apply

if its already set, fine... but its so far fixed me and another person I showed video to today.

I know you say you followed everything in video but i just wanted to check.

It's on maximum performance

I tried using Bluetooth headphones and I can listen the pop even like that

i wouldn't think you can hear pops over Bluetooth

lenovo suggested 10 so I would try that and see if its any better. If not, you can at least tell them.
Believe me! They are exact same pops, I can listen to them when for example, audio is at 0 and then something starts playing out of nowhere. I know its weird...

Well I'll go with 10 then, it's not like w11 is much a difference

So maybe you need to try 10?

I find answering posts about fixed problems is just asking for it to happen again. Can get superstitious if it starts to happen often enough. I answer BSOD posts here, I am hesitant to celebrate early
Yeah, I'll try 10. I needed it to work today because I'm finishing some stuff so since I was in a hurry I dediced to uninstall a recent w11 update. I don't know exactly what it did but at least it seems to be working rn, I'm 100% sure the problem was not related to the update but what can I say, this thing is crazy.

Hi, quick update. I'll try to run W10 via this tool [Official] Best Free Windows To Go Creator Wizard Helps Create Portable Windows 11/10/8/7! (easyuefi.com).

I'm installing it on an external hard drive, I'll try that just to discard that the ssd could be the problem. After this I'll install it directly on my pc, a clean install as suggested.

Update 1: No audio pops and no freezings on w10 while using an external hard drive, it's perfect, like Ubuntu which was used with an USB. Next I'm going to try installing it directly on the laptops ssd.

Update 2: I'm using a 15 years old hdd to store around 50gb, this is taking years, but hopefully I can finally be in peace with w10.

Update 3: Installing w10 rn, took some time but here we are. I sacrificed my sleep today just to do it, I hope it works :')

Update 4: Audio is popping... I'm really tired, I can't even get my money back. It's so disappointing, I don't know if freezes are gone, time will say it...

Well, you tried what the support website suggested, I would go back to them if it returns, and ask what they suggest next. Its the same company, just a different country.

I don't know if the hdd could be the cause (page 5 I can't even remember if its an ssd or hdd). Fact it works fine on USB and external drive could mean cause is the drive itself.

Apart from all this, crackling sounds are not really normal for a healthy drive. Sometimes, some mechanical flaws can't be detected by software testing. In case the issue persists, you can consider RMAing the drive.

In general, if you're having intermittent clicks and pops and suspect your hard drive, try re-seating the various power and data cables to it inside your PC, especially if it's recently been on a journey.

this part above hard to do in laptop but well, it shows it could be drive.

if its an ssd, it shouldn't really make any noises. No moving parts to make noise.

Its an ssd, sorry if I made you get confused. I just finished passing all my data again, its 5 am here lol. I will not make any commentary because it seems that when I say something is fine it breaks again, soo I'll use it for a week or so and I'll let you know how it goes.

The laptop has a one year warranty so I'll investigate if there's a way to get it repaired here or something. I don't know If the bios update will be for both w10 and w11, hopefully yes?
