Got a new laptop recently, it's a Lenovo Ideapad Gaming 3, but i'm getting random freezes and audio is popping
I used latencymon to see what's going on and i'm getting extremely high levels of latency
_
CONCLUSION
_
Your system appears to be having trouble handling real-time audio and other tasks. You are likely to experience buffer underruns appearing as drop outs, clicks or pops. One or more DPC routines that belong to a driver running in your system appear to be executing for too long. Also one or more ISR routines that belong to a driver running in your system appear to be executing for too long. At least one detected problem appears to be network related. In case you are using a WLAN adapter, try disabling it to get better results. One problem may be related to power management, disable CPU throttling settings in Control Panel and BIOS setup. Check for BIOS updates.
LatencyMon has been analyzing your system for 0:11:37 (h🇲🇲ss) on all processors.

_
SYSTEM INFORMATION
_
Computer name: LAPTOP-11QI23AL
OS version: Windows 10, 10.0, version 2009, build: 22000 (x64)
Hardware: 82K2, LENOVO
CPU: AuthenticAMD AMD Ryzen 5 5600H with Radeon Graphics
Logical processors: 12
Processor groups: 1
RAM: 5996 MB total

Note: reported execution times may be calculated based on a fixed reported CPU speed. Disable variable speed settings like Intel Speed Step and AMD Cool N Quiet in the BIOS setup for more accurate results.

_
MEASURED INTERRUPT TO USER PROCESS LATENCIES
_
The interrupt to process latency reflects the measured interval that a usermode process needed to respond to a hardware request from the moment the interrupt service routine started execution. This includes the scheduling and execution of a DPC routine, the signaling of an event and the waking up of a usermode thread from an idle wait state in response to that event.

Highest measured interrupt to process latency (µs): 420227.60
Average measured interrupt to process latency (µs): 55.763570

Highest measured interrupt to DPC latency (µs): 420223.50
Average measured interrupt to DPC latency (µs): 46.648393

_
REPORTED ISRs
_
Interrupt service routines are routines installed by the OS and device drivers that execute in response to a hardware interrupt signal.

Highest ISR routine execution time (µs): 33685.626594
Driver with highest ISR routine execution time: HDAudBus.sys - High Definition Audio Bus Driver, Microsoft Corporation

Highest reported total ISR routine time (%): 0.008110
Driver with highest ISR total time: Wdf01000.sys - Motor en tiempo de ejecución del marco de controlador en modo kernel, Microsoft Corporation

Total time spent in ISRs (%) 0.013960

ISR count (execution time <250 µs): 91359
ISR count (execution time 250-500 µs): 0
ISR count (execution time 500-1000 µs): 0
ISR count (execution time 1000-2000 µs): 2
ISR count (execution time 2000-4000 µs): 13
ISR count (execution time >=4000 µs): 0

_
REPORTED DPCs
_
DPC routines are part of the interrupt servicing dispatch mechanism and disable the possibility for a process to utilize the CPU while it is interrupted until the DPC has finished execution.

Highest DPC routine execution time (µs): 95914.540073
Driver with highest DPC routine execution time: dxgkrnl.sys - DirectX Graphics Kernel, Microsoft Corporation

Highest reported total DPC routine time (%): 0.076425
Driver with highest DPC total execution time: dxgkrnl.sys - DirectX Graphics Kernel, Microsoft Corporation

Total time spent in DPCs (%) 0.214949

DPC count (execution time <250 µs): 1135439
DPC count (execution time 250-500 µs): 0
DPC count (execution time 500-10000 µs): 260
DPC count (execution time 1000-2000 µs): 45
DPC count (execution time 2000-4000 µs): 324
DPC count (execution time >=4000 µs): 1170

_
REPORTED HARD PAGEFAULTS
_
Hard pagefaults are events that get triggered by making use of virtual memory that is not resident in RAM but backed by a memory mapped file on disk. The process of resolving the hard pagefault requires reading in the memory from disk while the process is interrupted and blocked from execution.

NOTE: some processes were hit by hard pagefaults. If these were programs producing audio, they are likely to interrupt the audio stream resulting in dropouts, clicks and pops. Check the Processes tab to see which programs were hit.

Process with highest pagefault count: msmpeng.exe

Total number of hard pagefaults 45023
Hard pagefault count of hardest hit process: 14298
Number of processes hit: 134

Solution

I did the Nvidia thing, not that mine was bad before, but it could have helped
7fdsWPf.jpg

what he calls good is higher than mine.

if you do anything in registry, backup first - https://neosmart.net/wiki/backup-restore-registry/

Yes. I thought i had better mention it. Main reason I got you to use linux was to see if you got same problems.
Since you didn't, it could mean its windows or hardware.
If it had, I could have said its hardware.

it just created another question instead of answering one.

Wait and see if anyone answers lenovo. If not, clean install win 11 and see if its better.
Or just clean install now if you don't want to wait

or install Ubuntu :)

Thanks buddy, I'll try to do the clean install on the weekend. I actually liked Ubuntu but from what I have read is not that easy to use, so I guess I'll stick to windows for now.

If I don't get an answer I will create another post on lenovo, I've seen that many people asks questions there so It might get lost pretty easily.

i wouldn't post too many as they might have policies about duplicate posts. We do...

if it returns after a clean install, I might suggest another forum but we not there yet
Ohh fine, I'll wait then. I'm kinda worried because since its a biiiig mess they might just ignore it, let's hope I'm wrong.

I remember that I did everything on that video before and no improvement was seen at all, the only thing I didn't do was the PowerMizer thingy, I'm kinda scared it makes the battery last less

sigh... i thought it would help :(

um, i would use Ubuntu if you know how, since it works, and might need to wait for the bios update like
https://forums.tomshardware.com/threads/crackling-and-freezing-sounds-brand-new-laptop.3753326/ who has same laptop but are on win 10 with same problems.

they waiting on BIOS update.

How new is this laptop? looks like a problem model gets or has right now.

I would perhaps contact Lenovo support. Its 2 laptops in 20 days with same reported here.

Could ask them to fix it since its likely under warranty still. Shouldn't have problems on a new PC.

Sadly I don't actually know how to use Ubuntu, from what I know some programs can't be used there sooo that's a problem for me

So a downgrade to Windows 10 wouldn't help... it's good to know at least. My laptop is brand new, I got it like a month ago, the first time I saw the problem was like after a week. I will try to contact Lenovo via support or something. (The thing is they can't provide me a new laptop or something because I bought in the US, and I'm not from there) :I

I will try to make another post, but on the spanish forum of Lenovo. I guess theres no problem, I'll translate everything they tell me (If they end up answering)

So its windows probably interacting with the Platform Security Processor, which is an ARM core that is built into the AMD CPU and which boots before rest of cores and creates the secure boot environment as well as contains fTPM which you can't boot win 11 without and holds PIN info.

the work around is buy a physical TPM or just wait for a bios update. I chose second. though that video might have fixed mine. its not common enough for me to know for sure.

Or there is something else that Lenovo have added that is cause. It happens on 10 & 11. I don't know if other person had secure boot on , or what default state of fTPM is in the bios.

Ubuntu can't talk to PSP yet, its a work in progress. So its not getting in the way of it. Windows can use drivers to do something with it, I have a driver called amdpsp.sys which is obviously related. its part of chipset drivers.
Your problem is more fundamental, I think it is how windows is talking to BIOS. Since it happens in safe mode.

They told me to do a clean install, I'm asking them if that's going to fix my problem because man, it takes time to pass all my data and programs again.
