[SOLVED] Extremely slow SSD writes in USB3 to SATA enclosure?

Hi! Sorry, long time lurker, got a question.

I have a new Crucial MX500 1TB SATA SSD in a SATA-USB3 enclosure. Reads are not too bad, but writes are atrociously slow. It is a USB 3.0 (SS) port and USB 3.1 gen 2 (SS10) cable. Clean Win10 install, 21H1. i5-7200U laptop, 12Gb RAM. Updated BIOS and firmware. Crucial's self-test diagnostic reads successful.

Write caching enabled, "better performance" removal policy.

Any thoughts on diagnosing appreciated. Thank you!

This is my CrystalDiskMark:

I would definitely check SMART (CrystalDiskInfo). Writes will become profoundly slow in some dire cases, but I would expect the drive to enter read-only mode by that point.

Well. That was a great idea. In my fervor I lost all my troubleshooting skills.

I didn't know SSDs could go sideways like this. Benchmark plugged directly into SATA.

Strange that the write speeds dropped even more.
