Factory Reset

Friend has decided to reset his computer back to Factory Settings, although
the process initially started well and after being informed that reset was
100% complete a message informs him that there is an: ‘Error #958. Could not
open script command file’. On pressing ‘enter’ or ‘Cancel’, screen goes to
‘Set-up’ mode and informs:
Boot from ATAPI cd-rom: Failure.
Disk boot failure, insert system disk and press enter.

My previous experience of ‘Factory Reset’ disks has been non-problematic,
what has gone wrong here?
I have cleared his CMOS settings and tried factory reset disk again but alas
no joy and run into the same error outputs, there is also an unnerving short
beep when comp is booting up which I can’t identify.
BIOS is set to boot from cd-rom and is also set at ‘Optimised Settings’.

firstly I don't understand why you clear the cmos settings ? this could well
be the cause of your problems with your install, more info would help

I'm not sure why you thought clearing CMOS would be useful, but it
sounds like your friend's computer is having hardware failures. S/he
should contact the computer mftr.'s tech support.

May be complete naivety in my part but my reason for clearing CMOS settings
was an attempt to eradicate the unnerving beep that occurs during start-up
but unfortunately the beep still exists and I still have the same error
outputs that where there before.
Have tried booting up with floppy boot disk and bios set to boot from ‘a’
drive but still get the message ‘Boot from ATAPI cd-rom: Failure, Insert
system disk and press enter’.
Would contacting friends manufacturer for another Factory Reset disk be a
possible answer or should I try to identify the cause of the short beep at
start-up?
How can I eradicate this beep?

The beeps that you hear when starting up a computer are audible signals
from the motherboard. A single short beep means that all is well. Other
beep combinations mean different things depending on the motherboard. A
long sustained beep often means bad RAM for instance. It can also mean
the system is critically overheating. Refer to your friend's
motherboard manual or look up the beep codes here:

It really does seem like your friend's computer has hardware problems.
Getting another Factory Reset disk isn't going to help with that at
all.

This throws up another problem Malke, friends manufacturer has recently
became bankrupt ‘Tiny’, suspect that Tech Support or replacement may only be
a dream.

The single short beep at start up is the universal "Everything is fine"
signal. Most computers will beep once at start up. Smile when it happens.

Thanks JD that clarifies the unnerving beep sound then, although must confess
I’m not totally familiar with this beep sound on other comps I have used or
maybe I have become oblivious to it.
If is not a hardware problem then the fault must lie in the dodgy restore
disk I assume!

You will have to check with whatever is left of Tiny regarding any tech
support. I certainly wouldn't wait very long to call.
