Question "Failed to read from sector . . . . ." when cloning. Should I continue ?

Hi,
I am still using Win-7.

I have a HDD where I have saved Win-7 with all settings & Updates till 2020.

I use this HDD in case if I need to install win-7 in another drive by just cloning new HDD from this HDD.

I was cloning a new SSD from this HDD to install win-7 from this old HDD but I got a message halfway when cloning as follows :

" Failed to read from sector " 100 003 656 " from HDD-1. Try to repeat but if error persist use chkdsk.
Direct R/W operation has failed. ( Ox 590001 ).
Input/Output error ( OXFFF1 ) "

It gave me a choice to try again or ignore or ignore all.

I selected " Ignore all " and it installed Win-7 on new SSD.

Windows-7 is working fine on New SSD.

Should I continue to use it & install all my apps & data on this newly cloned SSD or run chkdsk on original HDD ? & then install Win-7 again ?

Couple of my important apps seems to be working fine on this new SSD.

Please advice.

I think maybe you could run "sfc /scannow" at an admin command prompt which checks for system file corruptions. Google it.
There is another checking command but I cant remember what it is. Someone else here might know.

If Windows are working fine that means system files are not affected. Even other applications and file may not be affected either because cloning clones even empty sectors.

You should run chkdsk and see, what files have been affected.
Corrupted files might not be apparent immediately. But you may bump on them at later time, when they get accessed.
If those are some user files, then probably not a big deal.
But if those are system files, then you have a corrupted windows OS.

Bad sectors are on disk's platter(s) so they can't be transferred to another disk but any data in them would not be available for transfer. Cloning may fail too. If you just want to back disk up, cloning is not a best way. Better to use a dedicated backup program like Macrium Reflect free. Backup is much smaller because it doesn't back up free and unused or damaged space. MR has an option to jump over damaged blocks/sectors,has own rescue disk or USB rescue utility with which you can restore whole disk backup in minutes and utility to repair BOOT problems.

It would be OK is cloning works with bad sectors chances are it will refuse to clone. You just have to try it yourself. Much depends on a program you use to clone. MR also have cloning option.

It did the clone current SSD that I am using now.
I am using Acronis to clone.
