Received my copy of Falcon4 that I purchased off Ebay last week.
It is in great condition, and everything that was supposed to come with it
did.
Man, what an impressive 3 ring binder manual. Yeah, I know most of it is no
longer applicable, but it is a joy to read.

Going out tonight, hopefully tomorrow I can get it installed along with all
the updates y'all suggested.

Btw, been tweaking this new A64, am now running it at 215 mhz fsb (2.365
ghz), runs Prime95 stable.
It is running Pacific Fighters very good. I think now my 9800 Pro is a bit
of a bottleneck, but I am going to wait until prices come down before going
to the next generation.

Wow, I may have to get in on that and sell mine; haven't seen a guide yet,
including this one, that doesn't tell/teach you anything that the
manual/playing the game does just as easy.

Is that guide still worthwile, or is most of the info not applicable any
more due to Free Falcon3?

It's 100% based on the original manual, so it's obsolete imo.

But I'll sell you mine for $150 <g>

Anyone new to Falcon 4 I recommend installing the original plus 1.08 update
and go through the tutorials. It's the only way one is going to learn the
ropes properly. The manual is excellent and a great tool for learning to fly
the Falcon. I haven't touched Falcon 4 but here and there over the last
couple of years, but am ready to give it a go again soon with FF3. I loved
that sim, but if you don't use it regularly you forget all the nuances...

So one suggestion, jump in the cockpit for a mission at least a few times a
month to keep current. Kind of like a real pilot :)

Hmm, I may do just that - so if I do, I won't have to relearn everything all
over with FF3?

I have to go out of town on business Thursday, and plan to start going with
it probably on Saturday.

Thanks,

You'll never be the same. I'm not real happy with my Track IR2 with it, but
I suspect I'm not doing something right. It's a gas, though, to sue a
speech program to handle the radio stuff. Great suspension of disbelief.
Also, try taking off, pull up into a steep climb, then look back over your
shoulder... It's a gas! It just feels --- right... like it should... most
immersive flight sim ever.

From what I understand (and I'm no expert so I could be totally off here),
the basics as taughtin the manual and learned in 1.08us are the same in
later versions (SP3/4, FF3, etc.). It's the changes to the weapons systems
that makes the difference.

Has anybody critically compared the FF series to the super-paks? I'd
love to know the strengths & weaknesses of each.

Yes. Some of the key commands have changed and few minor things are
different, but it is best to tackle the training missions first, and learn
about the changes to SP4/FF3 when you feel comfortable with flying and
attacking with the bird. Graphics won't be as good with 1.08, but hey,
you're just learning, and cockpit will be slightly different with the
add-ons as well. But its easier to absorb those changes once you know what
you're doing instead of taking it all in at once and have no formal
guidance. That manual is a bible. Doubt we will ever see such attention to
detail in the future unfortunately.

Right off the bat, ya get more theaters, and newer campaigns
at least as far as I can tell. (running F4+FF3+Cobra1)

I stoped at SP 3 (had a hosed SP 4+BMS install) and did like
all the theaters I could fly in :)
