What would be the best cooling solution for a GHz Athlon, right now my athlon is sitting at about 56 degress celcius, which i consider a bit high.

Is the Thermaltake Super Orb any good ????

Hi,

Tom has made a test about CPU fans.
But 56 degree aren't much. The T-Bird can operate up to 90 degrees.
But if you want a good fan try the Elan Vital cooler.
It's quiet, within the weight specifications and is good for cooling because it has a copper plate for heat-transfer.

Grtz,

Hey...56C is acceptable. I run at about 42 up in fargo in the winter and about 52-55 in the summer. That is for a slot athlon. I think you need in excess of 90C to cook your chip.

I hate picking fights... but it's so fun

yeah i'd go with the Global Win fop38 (actually, i did)
if you can stand the noise...i love it

or go wih the fop32

also, the alpha pal is really good.

Ok, first you have to ask yourself if you want to overclock. If you do, go for a FOP38, but be prepared for the noise. Anyone not needing that much cooling performance would surely spare that noise. I bought a retail AMD 1 Ghz and it came whith what seems to be a coolermaster DP5-6H11 heat-sink. I tried to change for a chrome orb (same as golden orb), but it was worst. So if you don't want to overclock, don't spend too much time on heat-sink (yours seems to perform fine) and try to ventilate the case and/or add some Arctic Silver thermal paste.

BTW is 56 the MAX temperature (under heavy stress) light duty or idle? If it is light duty or idle, then you might want to change that heat-sink.

Before u buy the FOP38 with a delta get your girlfriends hair dryer and set it next to your computer.
Then try to work on the computer for a few hours and see if it bothers you. It drove me insane so I bought a copper hedgehogs with a sanyo denki fan (I think that’s the name) it’s quiet and cools quite well.
My temp reading are not comparable because I moved the temp probe closer to the CPU when I installed the hedgehog. My temps are around 50c now and I was able to OC it slightly faster with the Copper hedgehog even thou my temp reading were a little higher.
