Hello!

My Lenono x230 laptop started having a fan issue couple of days ago. At first the fan worked fine, but made louder noise (reminded me of the sound that a chainsaw makes, but obviously much quieter). Then after a couple of days of this rattling sound it stopped working altogether. Laptop started to heat more and more because of this and i restarted it. Fan turned on and worked properly for about 15 min tops and then started making louder noise, then it worked in loud bursts and then stopped altogether again. So everytime i restart it works for some time with this type of a cycle. I cleaned it of dust with compressed air and i even dismantled it a bit to remove all the dust i could get my hands on. It didn't help. I tried changing some settings in control panel that some videos and forums suggested but it didn't help.

So, is there anything that i can do or should i replace the fan?

Solution
Replace it. The symptoms you cite are not merely dirty. They are characteristic of a fan motor with bearings badly worn from normal use, and you can't repair that. Replace.
