[citation][nom]soldier37[/nom]With battery life at 15 min enough time for one round of Bad Company 2. Fermi = Fail![/citation]

Anyone who claims to run a real gaming notebook on a battery for any length of time is going to be lying.

Anyone who thinks a multi-GPU or big GPU notebook is intended for being run on battery needs to go back to reading PC World.

I guess when their performance champ has been knocked down a few notches, there is nothing left but to focus on things that don't matter to rational people.

Like most, I predict a re-badge of a lower end part... History speaks for itself in the nvidia mobile department... 100W is going to be a killer if that is JUST the gpu...

[citation][nom]otacon72[/nom]If that 100W means it needs 100Watts of power...[/citation]

They were talking about sound output from the fans. Actually. You can expect 120dB of painful whirring when sitting 6 feet away from the laptop.

[citation][nom]otacon72[/nom]I predict a whopping 15mins of battery life and burning sensation in my pants as the GPU burns a hole through them.[/citation]

No the burning sensation in your pants is from the girl youve been seeing.

They will probably clock the 480M version down a bit because the laptop i7s are just going to create a bottle neck anyway. It would be pointless putting a full blown desktop performing version into a notebook. Obvious is obvious.

unfortunately ATI has began to adopt the poor practices of nvidia in naming gpu's as well

the 5870m has 800 SPs and a 128-bit GDDR5 memory bus 🙁 (still 40nm, DX11, and MUCH higher clocks than the 4870m though - people have gone as high as 1000 MHz)

all that being said...the 5870m can score 10k Vantage GPU score with a single card which still rocks

Without the specs Im not convinced, this could be a fermi gf100 chip but the benches might make this gpu to be only as good as a gtx260 or even the gts250(9800gtx+) in terms of visuals with DX11 on a laptop!

sounds like a good night to me 😉

i guess because of the sheer heat, I will be fixing that many more laptops that de-solder themselves from overheating.

[citation][nom]ehanger[/nom]This is what happens when you try and put fermi in a laptop:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_WSPqLKgnQs[/citation]

God... that video is gonna give me nightmares tonight O_O

nvida should market it as a spermicide. cause that thing is going to boil your nuts. oh and imaging if they put this into the core i7 macbook pro it would be a "hot" product

This is intended for workstation applications as their will eventually be a quadro variant, it is also for desktop replacement and laptop GPU computing applications. I don't even want to think of the SLI version of this laptop, the heat coming out the back will be like a jet engine. ASUS's F-117 Nigh Hawk inspired design has nice airflow for CPU and GPU cooling, perhaps ASUS will use a similar design to package the GTX 480M?

Interesting to note that no one seems to have any specs present... So like others, I'll remain skeptical on whether it'd be an actual Fermi-based product. After all, the "GTX 285M" was, in fact, yet another re-badged G92 product, not a GT200.

So all told, a "GTX 480M" will likely turn out to be a re-badged GT200, albeit perhaps on a 40nm die shrink. Downclocking won't really get you 100w with a GTX 480.[citation][nom]silky salamandr[/nom]No the burning sensation in your pants is from the girl youve been seeing.[/citation]
No, the heat from Fermi in your lap would be a surefire way to cure that... As well as your fertility. It'll sterilize both.

I hope they will be releasing other scaled down versions of Fermi that are more power efficient, else nv is dead in laptop segment.

well i think it can be handy if your in like a housebuss. you take out your lap top run crysis fry bacon on your key board and holding a steady 7K remms to keep your comp alive ^^.

It's actually a good thing. The laptop will become multifunctional and also serve as a small cooktop and heater. Perfect for every dorm or small appartment.

whats that smell *sniffs air*

smells like...melting plastic and cloth...but where

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHH *stops, drops, and rolls*

my prediction

But it would be a nice compact gaming machine and for some on the go

Battery life, if you could imagine, would be impractical for on the go

Maybe they will lower power consumption 😀
