I'll probably end up getting this next friday. I need a good single player rpg, and I haven't bought this yet from the Square Enix store. I played originally on the PS1 and on the PC when it came out. To me it's the last great Final Fantasy game.

i bought this game around 2-3 years ago on the square enix store. worst drm ive ever seen. all saves are in the cloud and you have to be online and on your own account to access the bloody files. dont really know if the steam version is any different, so I wouldnt get it until verifying if the drm is the same.

And that is the main reason to BUY it because it is not a rull remake. It is a very good game made playable on modern PC's. For me that is what I wanted to be able to replay the game I remember on my i5 3570K GTX 670 SLI. I have the original CD release but it is not playable on modern PC's this is.

the graphic is an eye sore by today's standards. i would skip it and wait for square to bring ff12 and ff13 to the pc with properly updated visuals. 😛

Considering how much of a nightmare FFVII-PC and FFVIII-PC were (getting those to work properly required very specific GPUs that supported palletized textures and only worked with a handful of specific driver revisions), I personally wouldn't be in much of a hurry to spend more on playing a re-release with more invasive DRM.

If they want me to re-purchase FF7, they should remake it on the PC or PS4 with graphics on par with the FF7 PS3 tech demo.

All this did was prompt me to play my disc based PS1 copy using ePSXe. I've already given Square Enix enough of my money for FF7 repurchases (2x PS1 copies, original PC release - never worked, PS1 Classic on PSP).

I got it back when they released it on the Square-Enix Store. I am probably gonna buy it again on Steam just because its a lot more convenient for me.
I wish they would have rerendered all the pre-rendered graphics at a larger resolution.

are u kidding me? The background of FF7 is a pre-rendered graphic, they didnt even bother replacing that with a higher resolution better pre-rendered background, It cost very little to replace the background image, this version is simply a touch up FF7 to simply extort more money from gamer. They should at leasts redo the pre-rendered background since it doesnt alter any game codes.

Remaking the graphics is doable. My favorite game is Phantasy Star for the original Sega Master System. They remade it with improved graphics and it was almost a whole new game. They should do the same with FF and some others.

This version is like the old PC version: The soundtrack is all MIDI and NOT the original playstation music. You're getting One-Winged Angel without lyrics, and the overall music quality just doesn't compare. I'm saving my money, but then I have the original game already.

already bought it, already remembering the pain of save points too far apart, did not need to remember how much i loved it though, never forgot

can't believe all these people complaining. it's freaking 12 dollars. and it surely will be much cheaper during the steam summer sale. they're just making it available for people who don't have the old discs or a working PS/PS2 anymore (like myself), and yeah, making some money off it in the process, as they should. personally i was ecstatic to see it on steam finally.

Just to be clear, this is the 1998 remake with cloud saves, achievements, and hardware soft ware current gen compatibility. The sound is still replaced with the same midi that pulled it bombed reviews back then (unplayable by many). You've been warned, keep the expectations WAY low.

That aside it is on steam and has never been more accessible to PC. It can also be heavily modded to make it sound original and look current even by today's standards (the mod is Tifa's Bootleg and is NOT for the faint of heart. pretty intense). The music alone is simple to replace and can be googled.

Bought it without even thinking about it. $11 well spent. So what if it's not made to modern standards, FF VII one of the best video games ever made without question. The nostalgia factor is worth it alone.

I played the original on a friends PSOne and fell in love, think it was 1998. When Psone emulation was good enough I bought my own PS version and played it how I'm used to play my games, with quick saves.

So my definitive version of FFVII is the PS version on EPSXE with some nice filters, a high resolution and a good controller. (I'm a PC gamer, the last console I owned was a Sega Megadrive)

Call me a wuss or cheater, but the only way I can finish the game is with quick saves, up to five different ones per boss battle.

E-Ego, I like that 😀.
I saw it like 2 days ago on steam and i checked the video but it looks rather dull even compared to todays freeware MMOs.

I guess for some will hold sentimental value, but I didnt have that game in 1997, so its not interesting for me.

ooh this is the the HD version. I remember the pc port many years ago. It's worth getting this so you can blow through the loading times on a mordern pc as oppose to your collector's psx cd set.
