Finally got my qx9650 to 4.0ghz only have one question

Ok i finally got my qx9650 to 4,0ghz after hours and days of trying only way i could get it stable though was to put 1.47vcore witch shows up at 1.456v in cpuz will this be a acceptable voltage for 24/7 use and yes ive tried everything possible only way to get it stable threw prime was to up the vcore more oh and my temps have not gone past 70c the whole 2 hours ove been priming so they stay about 63 65c only when another loop starts it hit 70c but no higher.

0.85V – 1.3625V that is intel's recommended voltage for your chip. your voltage is way up the roof. don't expect to run it 24/7 on that voltage. if i were you, i'd take it down to 3.6-3.7ish or so. you have to remember, vcore does scale linear in relation to your OC, the higher you want to take the chip, the more and more juice you gotta put in.

yeah unfortunently i cant seem to get a stable 4.0ghz unless i have that much vcore any recommendations i got it stable at 10 multi by 400 but as u see with a vcore of 1.45v im trying 12 multi 333 no luck so far my specs as followed

Your voltage and temps are higher than what I would use on a 24/7 machine. It's your money though, keep it at 4.0 if you want.

Just don't be surprised if one day your CPU has died earlier than expected.

what should my temps be then im still kidna new to ocing ive gotten a stable 3.8ghz with alot lower vcore but thats it anything higher it becomes unstable.

that was my whole point that i mentioned earlier in my reply to your question. the vcore in OC-ing DOES NOT have a linear relationship with speed. meaning... at 3.8, the voltage there will be a lot lower than going to 4.0ghz, even though it's just a 200mhz increase. and if you want to hit 4.1 and so on, the voltage needed will be drastically higher the higher OC you go.

here's my last input for you, if you're new to OC-ing, turn down your oC. 3.8ghz or 3.7ghz is plenty fast. stay under 1.36v vcore to ensure a lasting system. you're gonna blow your chip any day, but its your money.

Did you work up your overclock with a lower multi?
Did you work up your OC with a lower FSB strap?

Lower your vcore as stated by aznguy, DISABLE the spread spectrums and lower your Multiplier to find out how far your ram will go (adjusting skew if needed), then lower your FSB strap to 1:1 to take the ram out of the equation and find out how far the processor can go. THEN do both at the same time. Stress Test and monitor temps after each change.

Once you have it were you want it, try lower other Volts like NB,PLL and find those lowest voltage settings.

I think that cpu can hold that much voltage. It will shorten the lifespan from 8yrs to maybe 5yrs but in 5yrs that cpu would be obsolete.

You can probably lower the voltage. My X3370 runs at 3.8ghz on 1.28v stable. Also, when you get to high OC's like 4ghz on these quads, vcore isnt everything. Youre gonna have to start raising NB voltage, GTL voltages, PLL...Regardless, I recommend sitting on 3.8ghz and stopping. My system can run this at 3.8ghz with minimal vcore and lowest voltage everything else, but getting to 4ghz and I have to throw another 0.4v on the NB, PLL to 1.42, and GTL out of default. Not to mention mess with memory speed/timings.

The Extreme edition chips just mean unlocked multiplier. I hope you didnt buy it with the insinuation that it just overclocked better than the non-extremes.

Either way, extreme edition chips are a waste of money regardless, with that $1100 you spent on that CPU you could have gotten a full blown i7 setup and beat that QX.

i got this chip before i7s were even out so but like i said ill keep it at 3.8ghz with my vcore of 1.352v and run that for a couple months then im off to a i7 non extreme lol

It is true though that the extremes have better chances at overclocking higher, just because they are higher binned chips. Whether or not that is worth it to you is another matter though.

I have a rampage extreme w/qx9650 at 4.27Ghz. I only use 1.39vcore.....does it ok.
