What a really great piece of work. Any criticism would be churlish.
Hats off to all concerned.

It was good. I'm replaying Lord Alan's Basement since I loaded it the
other day anyhow. What was your favorite mission of T2X?

I don't know what churlish means, but I suppose I could look it up.
T2X was okay, but could of been improved upon.

"rude and boorish." Mostly of Brit use.
By your remark, I guess I'm not the only
one that doesn't want to start a major
religious movement because of the game.

I deleted it after not being able to get past that first incident
when what's-his-name the cousin is killed at the gate -- not even
after five tries. That should be doable first time -- since it wasn't,
I thought it better to consider myself dead five times over, and
game also five times over.

Just run as fast as you can ;)

What I meant was about not being critical was that it was free,
and a labour of love for so many people.
Granted, it may not be to everyone's taste, but it's still
a monstrous achievement.

The only way I could get by unscathed, was to kneel down behind the
"killer" and as soon as the gate opened take off running and dodging the
archer then get to safety.

What was your favorite mission of T2X?

For me it was definitely "Dead men..", the hospital was also quite
distinctive.

Not sure about the problems other people experienced, if anything it was way
too easy. More than occasional problems with getting stuck in a corner where
you shouldn't was annoying but that's all.

Ah well, let's move on.

So why, at that point, did you not reinstall Thief 2 and save yourself
further problems caused by your faulty installation?

The one indicated by these threads:

http://groups.google.com/group/alt.games.thief-dark-project/browse_thread/thread/e7dcc3f07daad6d7/c409d6aabd5220f2
http://groups.google.com/group/alt.games.thief-dark-project/browse_thread/thread/8f4015128fcfead3/1d99569e32ee9b3d

Have you tried the first T2X mission *after* doing a *clean*
reinstall of Thief 2 and T2X?

"Clean" means *completely* removing the Thief 2 directories from the
hard disk, before reinstalling. This gets rid of the cruft amassed
from 1001 third-party missions and Darkloader configuration changes.

Actually, there have been a whole raft of problems reported with trying to
play FMs after removing T2X. The uninstaller seems to take some files it
shouldn't. To anyone who hasn't actually installed T2X yet, I'd suggest
putting in a second installtion of T2 exclusively to use with T2X. If you
don't know how to do that, check this thread for details:
http://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=100154

If it's too late for that, before going to the extreme of completely
removing and reinstalling T2 to get other FMs to work properly, you can try
reinstalling just a couple of files. The usual culprits are the
"convict.osm" file, which you can find on your T2 CD and a file from
Gaylesaver's scripts "darkhooks.dll" which can be fixed by just reinstalling
his script package. If that doesn't work, though, then you're in for a full
delete and reinstall to get things working properly again.

If the T2X team hadn't used their little installer and had just used
Darkloader, those files would have been backed up while T2X was installed
and restored afterwards.

Basically, the old rule saying "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" applies
to Thief 2. No need to use the T2X installer and have their little
launcher running the whole time. Oh well, people seem to want to do
things the hard way and then complain about the results.

Thanks for the explination and the link.
I thought my computer was the only one that
had been messed up, but hadn't said anything
negative about T2X because of fear of rabid
Thief fans if I had.
Maybe I can salvage the FMs I was working on
and thought had gone bad.
Thanks again.

Just a warning - don't expect to restart a mission from one of the saves
when the mission wasn't working properly. You'll have to make sure you go
back far enough to get a save that was from before you uninstalled T2X or
restart the mission entirely. Glad I could be of help!

Forgot all about those posted from 3 1/2 months ago. I guess my memory

I had no idea about this, many thanks for the info! :) My
Komag CD (/DVD) arrived the other day with T2X on it, but
I've not installed it yet...

So many fan missions to play! <*rubs hands together*> ;)

They're still doing them? I must order a copy. I stopped checking after
they discontinued the CD versions a while back. I now have a DVD drive,

UK PC Gamer had it and some other FMs on their cover DVD a few months
back. I've played a bit of it. Quite good so far.

If only I could drag myself away from Hearts of Iron 2.

Yes, he put T2X on a seperate CD for me, along with the rest
of the FMs on Komag DVD #1. ;) (It seems T2X is too big to
fit on the main DVD, it usually goes on DVD #2)

I'm not familiar with it. What type of game is that?
