I like Chrome's philosophy:

Keep the fun stuff right in front where you can easily get to it and keep the mechanical/work-related stuff in a small, single pull-down menu (the Wrench Icon) to access when you need it, but out of the main spotlight.

No need for Menu Tabs to clutter up space that can be used for more browser room. Or a separate "search" field. Do it all from one field or pop open a new tab and do it from there.

It's simple and it works. That's why I like Chrome.

It's just my opinion but many other people agree.

And yes, loading up faster and using less system RAM is also a nice Chrome feature.

[citation][nom]jackbling[/nom]I suppose feature bloat is a natural course software developers take, however, in trying to add value they alienate their user base, and hurt the performance/usage that likely made them a viable choice to begin with.[/citation]

As a developer I just have to clarify this. DEVELOPERS usually want to create the best performing product and instead of adding new features, they want to improve / speed up the existing features. It is the MANAGEMENT of a company that doesn't give a sh_t about performance/stability. Management just wants to keep adding new features to 'beat' their competitors.

Not that I'm bitter or anything.

I am still using opera, its faster than any browser i've ever used, I jump to ie9 for filling out forms and what not and that's it. But Firefox was the first browser that helped me break the mold of ie.

lol, i will definitely concede to your correction; when i said developers, what i actually intended was, in this case, mozilla as an organization.

The link that Tom's provided for x64 does not work. I went to Mozilla's page to dl but there was only one option which I downloaded and installed. Does this mean I am running the 32 bit version? How would I check?

Version 5 in June, 6 in August... let's see. October is 7.0 and December 8.0
At that rate we should get Firefox 14 in time for christmas 2012...
Ah wait; didn't they announce the no more version numbers deal?
So it is going by name then; Animals, Cities, or whatever.
It is getting a bit silly; just like me right now 🙂

Firefox is going the way of Netscape; The end is coming and there's no way to stop it. IE and Safari come with the OS, Chrome comes with Google integration, Firefox comes with................................

they said the same thing with netscape and even though netscape is gone more web browsers showed up to the party and netscae code is still being used in firefox and chrome to this day

I don't know why people are hating on Firefox 6 so much. It's fast, stable, and it scores better on the HTML5 test than Opera 11.5 now.

I am still using 3.6 and won't bother with the newer versions due to the addons as well the need to keep the ui as is. I hate the newer versions and will eventually move onto something else when download helper and fireshot no longer are any value.

I remember how, when Firefox 4 came out a year ago, everyone was so supportive of Mozilla, how they didn't release a version every couple months like MS IE did, and so on... and then Firefox 5 came out a few months later.... and now 6...

At this rate, Mozilla's gonna be just as bad as Microsoft ever was.

This is the *advantage* of Firefox! It doesn't "come with something", it's just THERE, waiting for you to download it. It's not forced upon you and is not tied to anything. And it will NOT come to an end, because it's Ubuntu's default browser and as such will keep being updated.

And seriously... now you guys are hating on FF because it updates often? Lol, get real. So, instead of 3.5 or 3.6 we just get FF 5 or FF 6 now... SO WHAT? You're evaluating a browser by its version naming system?!

I find FF to be a fine browser and have no problem with their updates. I'm "bombarded" by Windows updates or Nvidia updates and these are more than welcome, why not browser updates then? eh? Ah yes and nobody is forcing anybody to use any browser. You can choose and use what you like.

[citation][nom]matt_b[/nom]What is with these recent rapid-release versions of Firefox? They've gotten as bad a Chrome has. This rate next year, we'll be at FF 12 and Chrome 19. Not stifling creativity or progression here, but the "our browser is at a higher number than yours" is stupid.[/citation]

Chrome 19? Are you HIGH? Chrome 14.X was the latest version ~2+ weeks ago! Now, Chrome 15.X is the latest. More like Chrome 50?
