Hey,

I just built my first PC, but I am having some trouble getting it to boot. I have an ASUS P8Z68-V LX motherboard, WD Caviar Blue HD, an Intel SSD, and an ASUS optical drive.

The devices are all SATA and are all plugged in right.

When I try to boot it says to Reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device.

I can get into the BIOS but it only recognizes the ASUS optical drive and the SSD in the priority order menu. When i select the boot drive menu, though, it has all 3 of the drives listed there. I tried selecting both the HD and the SSD on separate occasions and get the above mentioned error.

I swapped the HDD and the Optical drive to see if the port was bad on the MB but there was no change.

Any help to get my new system booted up would be greatly appreciated!

Solution
1)Try swapping SATA cable for WD Caviar Blue HDD.
2)Have you tried to boot by enabling bios options like: "boot from optical drive" etc. in boot priority order menu & then inserting some bootable Operating System Disc?

OP one thing that may help is to unplug the extra hard drive while trying to install Windows. Only have the optical drive and the SSD plugged in. Also make sure BIOS are set to AHCI and not IDE or RAID.

Thanks for all the replies everyone!

I figured out what it was. I had to boot the Optical drive first with the OS in it.
Didn't realize I couldn't boot without that step... Stupid mistake on my part.

Thanks for all the help though!
