Question First BSOD crash after waking laptop from sleep mode - - what caused it and how to prevent it ?

Hi guys, any help with my situation is very much appreciated. Sorry if my post is a bit long TLDR in the bottom.

BSOD issues are problems out of my league and I am terrified of them, I had one boot loop issue on my old laptop a few years ago and ended up loosing all my data and had to replace my hard drive on my laptop. Since then I've gotten a new laptop (specs mentioned below) and have been using it without any major errors for a little over a year now. I usually use my laptop connected to an external display and typically only use it for work, research and gaming here and there. I also usually just leave it on sleep mode when I'm working on an assignment or projects and haven't gotten any issues when I open it back up and return to work.

Another thing to note is that I put it on sleep with light programs such as microsoft office or a few browser tabs nothing heavy like an editing software or a game. This changed today when I left it on sleep mode as normal for 5-6 hours, when I came back and resumed my work I started a program and I got the bsod error for 1-2 seconds and for some reason it wasn't even in full opacity like I could see my browser tab behind it, it was like 50% opacity and then my laptop restarted.

Now with my previous experience I panicked and ran WinDGB with the minidump log file and realized I cannot understand anything at all so I've come here for help and to understand what caused the issue .

I also ran sfc scan and there was no integrity violations, and I've updated most drivers (but I haven't checked for any BIOS updates just graphic card updates)

I've attached a mediafire link for my minidump file: Minidump

This is what first part of WinDGB bug check told me:

SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION (3b)
An exception happened while executing a system service routine.
Arguments:
Arg1: 00000000c0000005, Exception code that caused the BugCheck
Arg2: fffff8016a4ac28f, Address of the instruction which caused the BugCheck
Arg3: ffffaf0fe06367e0, Address of the context record for the exception that caused the BugCheck
Arg4: 0000000000000000, zero.

I'm not sure if this is a hard drive issue again or even a memory issue (according to some microsoft thread online).
Also here are my pc specs
Laptop : HP Victus 16-e0xxx
CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 5600H with Radeon Graphics 3.30 GHz
GPU: Geforce RTX 3050 Ti Laptop (Direct X 12)
RAM: Slot 1 - 8GB Samsung 2400MHz
------- Slot 2 - 8GB Micron Technology 2667MHz (Total 16gb)
System Board: 88ED 80.73
BIOS: F.18
OS: Windows 11, 22H2

Any help would be super appreciated! Please feel free to ask for any other information which I may have missed also here is the TLDR
- Seeking help for a BSOD issue on my laptop
- Previous experience with a similar problem on an old laptop resulting in data loss and hard drive replacement
- Current laptop used for work, research, and occasional gaming without major errors for over a year
- Left laptop in sleep mode for 5-6 hours, encountered BSOD error with reduced opacity upon resuming work
- Error lasted 1-2 seconds, laptop restarted
- Ran WinDBG with minidump log file but couldn't understand the results
- Looking for assistance to understand and resolve the BSOD issue

They not all bad. Most are just software errors. They can be caused by hardware but most of the time its software. BSOD wouldn't have caused the boot loop, its more likely the drive was old and was cause of the BSOD.

File: 123023-10031-01.dmp (Dec 30 2023 - 17:20:57)
BugCheck: [SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION (3B)]
Probably caused by: ntkrnlmp.exe (Process: TradingView.ex)
Uptime: 1 Day(s), 5 Hour(s), 06 Min(s), and 40 Sec(s)
Process mentioned is victim, and the part it blames is part of windows. So unlikely cause.

report

I can't tell what driver was to blame but generally it is a driver if it happens in sleep.

I would run the auto update process here and see if it finds any new drivers - https://support.hp.com/au-en/driver...ptop-pc-16-e0000/model/2100371556?sku=6Y0E0U8

Hi Colif, thank you so much for responding!

I tried running the auto update process but for some reason after selecting my OS and OS version it says
"The PC you are currently using does not match the PC you have selected. To detect drivers for the PC you have selected, initiate detection from that PC or click on “All Drivers” below and download the drivers you need".

Which is weird so I hit the all drivers option and that shows me every single possible driver I can install or update, should I manually go through all of them or?

I googled around and found a program called HP Support Assistant that can check for updates, I used that to check for auto updates and this is what it gave me
  • HP Consumer Notebook PC BIOS Update (88EB/88EC/88ED/88EE/8934)
  • Realtek RTL8xxx Series Bluetooth Driver
  • Realtek RTL8xxx Series Wireless LAN Drivers for Microsoft Windows 10 (DCHU)
  • OMEN Gaming Hub SDK Package
Should I download them all?

I wasn't sure if that was right device, guess it wasn't exactly right.

The BIOS could help, and the other updates could as well.
I was about to suggest the HP Assistant but you beat me to it :)

Oh okie gotcha! So just to sum it up (just to confirm my own understanding) for this BSOD case its probably a driver issue and updating most of them like BIOS should hopefully fix it? Also thanks for your clarification on my previous experience with the BSOD boot loop so this time it might not be as harmful?

Thank you for ur help once again! I'm very grateful for your assistance! Hopefully I don't encounter BSOD again but incase I do I'll keep you updated and post another Minidump file.

well, its a start. It might fix the problem. I can't tell from the report what cause is. But wifi/lan drivers are most likely to start in sleep modes. While you sleep, PC might run updates etc.

The guy who normally does our BSOD questions is on holidays it seems - we all volunteers so no one has to be here really. I have about 5 years experience fixing them but I am not as good as he is. Xmas/ NYE are times most people aren't around.

Oh ok no problem If the issue happens again (hopefully not) I'll make a new post after NYE to see if we can root down the problem! Anyway I'm going to hop off now thank you once again for your assistance and for your services in this community! Happy holidays and I hope you have a great new year!

Hi Colif! Hope you had an awesome new years!

Unfortunately my laptop isn't so awesome, so after I last spoke with you my laptop was running all good until today when I decided to remove my laptop from the monitor to work some where other than my room. The first thing I did was disconnect my mouse and then I went to disconnect my HDMI cable and before I even had a chance my laptop ran into another BSOD error but luckily I had turned off automatic restart last time and I was able to get a picture of the error
I've attached a media fire link to the error picture and also a link to the minidump file.

Also I do wanted to let you know that I have not updated BIOS, I saw a tutorial online for windows 11 and it specifically mentioned to disable bit locker drive because if I dont it might result in data loss. Now apparently windows 11 home does not have bitlocker drive or any drive encryption method so I didn't want to take and risks and did not update BIOS.

I'm not sure what to do now I'm panicking again 😭
