First build - get nothing on screen.

I just completed my first build. Wow that was a long night. Anyway, I got done plugging everything in and went to turn on the PC and nothing comes up on the monitor. I have an Asus pro gaming 970 motherboard and evga 1060 ssc and 650 gold evga power supply. I don't know if I'm supposed to do more or what? I plugged in the graphics card. I even checked my old graphics card and that one doesn't work either. I tried both slots as well. I'm not sure if it's because I'm plugging it in wrong? Because there is always a port hanging out. The vga cords that came with the monitor make me have a port doing nothiing. Or I'm supposed to do something as soon as I turn it on? Or maybe I'm using wrong combination of cords? Idk. Anyway. Any help would be awesome.

If your old graphics card also doesn't work then it's probably not the new card.
Try with only 1 stick of RAM. Also unplug and re-seat everything (cables, cards, memory, etc.)

Yes everything seems to be in working order. Even the lights are on the mobo. I put in two 8 gig ram sticks. I am using amd quad core 4.2 Hz. Am3+. Graphics card spins for about 10 secs and turns off. Nothing on the monitor.

I'm about to go do that. Maybe I have ram in wrong ports. I will let you know how it goes
