Hello all,

Recently got interested in doing my own computer builds and been trying to learn all I can from reading the forums here and other sites, watching YouTube videos (i.e. Techoftomorrow, Newegg, Linus), and reading blogs. I know I still have much to learn which is both intimidating and exciting, so I have come here to post and learn more!

After spending a whopping couple weeks of research, I've assembled a list of components below for a build I'm thinking of doing in the future. This computer will be primarily for gaming. My budget aim is within $2000 (will be flexible), but this budget includes the monitor(s), keyboard, mouse, and case as well as the computer components. Top priority will be WoW and possibly other MMOs (Elder Scrolls Online, FFXIV, Wildstar, etc.) as well as RPGs potentially (Elder Scrolls, Witcher, etc.), so here's the list!

This build, as you can see only has the guts of the computer and no case, mostly because I really don't know what kind of case I want to get. I don't really know what to look into, but I have noticed Bench Cases by DIY PC and other companies, they seem to be interesting, what do you guys have to say about them? I'm find with using a good ol' tower, but I'm not sure which kind of tower to look into either.

I also am having questions about purchasing fans to replace stock; what do I need? Also, anyone care to give me a summary on what peripherals are?

I don't have much interest in serious overclocking, but I'd be willing to make some minor modifications. My PSU is 1300W because I'm wanting to leave the option open for SLI, call it a minor futureproof if you want.

I'm planning on using the SSD for my OS (Windows 7 Home Premium) as well as commonly used applications and maybe a game or two and the HDD for, well, everything else.

Anyway, this post has already gone on for long enough. Like I said, I've posted on here for your input and advice, so don't hesitate to be blunt and merciless with your feedback and criticisms; I want to learn!

Thanks all,

- Ring

Solution
First SSD it is 64GB bit small side. But hey take bigger if you want. My suggestion is 256GB but 128 is better than 64GB.

RAM you do not need 16GB for games. 8GB is enough. If you find cheap 16GB it is good buy.

Mobo is not best. CPU is old lga 1155 new is 1150. You can build 1155 build but then maybe better cpu is this.

Then if you like build new 1150 build then it looks like this.

PSU was huge overkill. Really good psu. But with one video card you need just 450-550w good psu. With two video cards you need 750-850w. If plan is go wild and do 3 or 4 way sli then it is good to have begger psu.

GPU was bit old...

GPU was bit old (670) better buy is 760 or 770.
Hope this helps.

Edit. This is good priced 2560 1440 monitor.

Then you still have money to get good keyboard + mouse , speakers, headset or what ever. :)
Edit 2 Here was good rosewill keyboard for nice price + other good parts too. Like memory, mobo and combo deals.

You can downgrade the psu to ~550w if you dont plan to add a second,
I picket that corsair 860 platinum because it has a huge rabate.

The sapphire hd 7970 cost only ~305$, awesome deal, better p/p

I also choosed a custome watercooling kit, great performance/quality,looks realy good and easy to install

you could go for a cheaper air-cooling solution like cooler master evo, since you only want to do light overclocking its fine.

Or what about a 3x1080p monitor setup ?
http://pcpartpicker.com/part/asus-monitor-vn247hp

3x170$= 510$, would fit into budget
But need to turn down some settings to high-medium in order to play smoothly, personaly not a big sacrifice for me.

Would 8gb even be enough for futureproofing? I know 8gb would be enough for everything in WoW and other MMOs, but would 16gb be overkill for everything? Including huge RPGs with large amounts of rendering amidst combat? If you say 8gb is enough now and in the future, then I'll take your word for it.

Thanks a bunch for the response! Also for including PCPartPicker; I didn't know such a place existed! I didn't know I would be able to make such a build with a video card like a Geforce GTX 770 and still be so well within the price range! Extremely helpful; thank you!
