i have a confusion between first generation i5 and second generation i5 .. ? how does it mak a difference in the speed / performance ?? the laptop which i am planning to buy ( which has the first gen i5 ) has 8 gb RAM .... and my second option is a laptop (with 2nd gen i5 ) but 6 gb RAM ?? which one is better ????

I would say clock for clock the 2nd gen Sandy Bridge CPUs are closer to 10% better performance on average verses the 1st gen Clarkdale CPUs.

6GB of RAM is typically more than enough for the average person / gamer. An extra 2GB of RAM shouldn't boost performance by any noticeable amount. However if you are using programs that can eat up RAM like Photoshop, databases, very large and complex spreadsheets, then the extra 2GB of RAM can come in handy.
