I wanted to build a gaming desktop. I've been a laptop person eversince so its my first time to build a desktop. I'm kindof fixed of having an i5 processor.

Musts:
-i5 CPU (not going to overclock)
-SSD (for OS) + 1tb hdd
-mid/high GPU
-8gb memory

Ok.. Totally changed my mind..

I was able to get the deal from micro center for i7 4770k ($199.99) + MSI Z87-G45 ($119.99) total of $347.59 with tax.. Now I'm looking at GTX 770 / Radeon for my GPU.. I upped the budget to $900 - $1000.. remaining budget is now around $550 - $650 for GPU, Memory, SSD (120gb), HDD (1tb) and PSU ..

Any recommendation?

Is 280x better than GTX 770? I also see 7970 in the forums. Which one would be the best for performance-price?

the 280x and 7970 ghz cards as you see in the video are a dead heat. the 280 ram is slightly faster but the core gpu runs slower.
