Question Sound Card Question

I recently hooked up a soundbar using the digital optical port on my sound card, now neither the front panel jack, or the jack on the card itself, works unless I disconnect the soundbar...

Is this typical, am I doing something wrong, or is there a way to circumvent this?...

What is the make and model of your sound card? Yes, it's normal, when only one audio output source is active.

with most of the sound systems i've setup through a computer there is only one source available at any given time.

and, when available, optical ports have pretty much always been considered the focus point by the audio processor.

is there a way to circumvent this?

you can usually open 'Control Panel > Sound' and select which option you want to use for your primary sound input / output.
