Fix a bent pin?

Is it at all possible to fix a bent cpu pin?

I ordered a motherboard and turns out when the person hooking everything up was working on it, they discovered a bent pin. I tried to return it, but apparently the item was ineligible for returns after I had already printed the shipping label. They have been fighting me hard on this. even though I had began the process before it was up.

Anyways, its a ASRock ASRock Fatal1ty Gaming Fatal1ty Z97 Killer LGA 1150 Intel Z97 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard.

Is there a way to get this fixed? If not, do people buy broken motherboards like this? What are my options? I dont want to be out $120 🙁

Just for clarification, the pin is in the motherboard not a CPU pin (Intel LGA system).
People have been known to fix pins without issue.
All you have to do is gently bend it back into place, and be extra careful not to bend more pins.
Toothpicks, coffee straws, anything small/similar you can use.
Its worth a shot if its a single pin, either you leave it bent and dont have a board, you break it and dont have a board, or all is well. Might as well try to fix it.

Most motherboard manufactures have a no return policy for boards with bent pins. The reason being is that odds of the pin getting bent after it has already been checked and tested then covered with the protective piece in shipping are almost 0. I worked at a shop and worked with hundreds of motherboards from LGA775 to LGA1155 and none that I handled had a bent pin after taking them out of the box for the first time.

You can try to fix the bent pin but it is very hard. I did a few fixes for customers and had some success but not every time as it depends on how bad the bend is and if it actually broke off or not.

Not trying to be a jerk bu I am more than willing to bet that whoever was working on it slipped and bent the pin. That is probably what happened.

I agree to above, it depends on how badly the pin is bent, i accidently bent a pin of my board long ago, decided to carefully put it in place with a stong pointed object,as the pin was bent slighly it was not a tough job.

Sorry I havent replied to anyone yet. I was talking to both the distributor (NewEgg) and the manufacturer (ASRock)

I decided not to try to fix it in fear of breaking it off and then being completely screwed.. however, heres what happened:

They both told me the other one was in charge of the replacement/returning of the MOBO. I described in both cases that the pin was bent. Neither one told me anything about it being nonreturnable for this.

But long story short, after about 3 total hours of chat between both companies, the dealer is emailing me a return shipping label for the mobo. I do not know if they will be replacing it or refunding my money or what, but all I know is, it is now being returned tomorrow.

I just hope they dont get the product back, then tell me they wont do anything. I have a terrible feeling that if that happens, Ill end up paying for shipping to get the product back as well.

But right now, I hope for the best. I cannot afford another MOBO right now and it is a desperate purchase

Just for entertainment purposes:

I recently discovered a bent pin on an AMD processor I was messing with.

I called AMD, fell on my sword, told them of the bent pin, and that "I probably did it inadvertently and was calling to throw myself in the lion's den". They told me to "Warranty Return it", and "see what happens". I could tell the guy was typing as I was going thru my "full confession".

Low and behold, they sent me a new one---and had every reason not to.

I have always been an AMD guy, and here is a company that understands customer service, OR, responded to honesty, OR both.

Sometimes, and not often enough anymore, I believe, honesty pays. I would rather deal with AMD, for example, then someone that fights you out of principal.

Just my experience.

With such a small market share they really do try to keep what they have.
AMD pins are much easier to fix than LGA socket pins too.

I mentioned already that I have fixed the problem. I am sending back the motherboard today. Thank you
