HI, I have a 2TB Seagate external HDD. I plugged in the wrong power lead and poof, a small mushroom cloud of smoke after a few seconds.

The housing is ok and the problem is the HDD now. It doesn't even power up, think I may have burned out some solder or something.

I am a complete noob at this and is there an easy way of fixing for this? Will my data be still there or fried? I don't want to send it away to get fixed as there are bank statements, credit card details etc on it as I was using it to back up my data.

Can I unscrew the circuit board and have a look? Or can I buy a new one? I want to recover this as there are some things on the hard drive that aren't on my PC

Many Thanks

oh, I havent had chance to look yet as I dont have any screwdriver parts small enough to unscrew it. . After I unscrew the board what else is required? Or should I just cut my losses, theres nothing really super important that I can lose

Don't even bother, without specialized equipment it's not going to work.
