Fixing a system that stuck on 'Windows Resume Loader'?

Hello, First I would like to thank you for opening this text. I need help because I have a problem right here.

The problem seems simple (It seems like it is a problem with Windows 7 only, not sure though. And I hope it is Windows 7 only who creates the problem). But, it wouldn't let me boot!

When I boot, it boots fine like how it would. It beeps (short beep once) and it posts. But when it goes to windows instead of the windows booting, a 'Windows Resume Loader' screen appeared. It looks something like this:

But, at that screen, I got stuck. I can't use the keyboard, to move it up down and to press enter. Meaning, I can't get past this screen.

Well to you this may not be that clear, but, the whole story was like this:

I played Portal 2, I left it out just like that (in game). Then, I got back. When I got back the screen was black, I was expecting the computer to sleep. I tried moving the mouse a bit and pressing random keyboard buttons. The screen wasn't responding and won't wake up. So, I tried pressing the power button and tried a reboot. Then, that (Windows Resume Loader) screen appeared. I tried pressing up and down and enter, but it doesn't make any response... Which means I can't boot.

Things I have tried:

1. Trying to plug in a PS/2 Keyboard. It doesn't work still!
2. Trying to go to the BIOS. Strangely the keyboard and the mouse didn't work properly. This is a really strange problem honestly.

Please give me some recommendation. Thanks for reading and thank you for the help!

Hmm...since the keyboard/mouse don't work even before Windows loads, it could indicate a hardware/motherboard problem. Has the system been doing anything else strange?

If this were strictly an in-windows issue, I would ask if you have you run windows update? Perhaps there's a chipset/other driver that needs to be updated. Also, could be a corrupt hard drive/corrupt sectors. You could also run the disk checker. But since it happens outside of Windows, it could be something like bad USB ports. Is USB Legacy support enabled in the BIOS?

OK I see what you want to say there.

The system is totally fine before this problem occurred. However I never opened BIOS before and all drivers were stock (not updated yet).

It couldn't be a corrupt hard drive or hardware because just right before that we were playing portal 2 and everything were normal in windows. Maybe USB or PS/2 Support is not right, but since the BIOS is not acting properly I can't hover around the BIOS. However thanks for the help! Maybe this needs CD boot? I don't know!

Have you tried the USB keyboard in all the USB ports?

Have you tried resetting the CMOS back to it's defaults. Then plugging in the PS/2 keyboard before starting the PC. Probably right now the bios has the PS/2 port is disabled.

OK Guys I got past the Windows Resume Loader and boot fine :). Thank you for all your nice help guys. Apparently it is probably a problem with the USB Keyboard. Now I am switching the keyboard completely with the PS/2 keyboard and It worked fine.

Thank you for your help guys. Couldn't choose the best answer because All of you are very helpful :).

Keep pressing F8 at start up, it should take you the advance screen, then look for the line that say LAST GOOD CONFIG. meaning it will take you back to where your computer was working fine without any problem. that should solve your problem. If that don't work reset the cmos on the motherboard, but first you have to unplug all power to the motherboard before do so, then press the reset button located on the motherboard, 95 percent of the time this technique will work.

For anyone else that runs across this issue.... Pressing F8 will not work if your USB keyboard won't work to press Enter on the stuck screen. For those with a newer motherboard like me, I don't have a PS/2 port... You can go into your bios and look for the option to "Enable Legacy USB support" and then your USB keyboard will work at the stuck screen, as well as pressing F8.
