My brother has a rebuilt (I rebuilt it) HP comp. It's not a new problem, but it solved itself last time. Just replaced the power supply, and that solved it's weird boot. Even though it no longer just turns on the fans, it POSTS three times, and I can't remember the model of the mobo. It's a Q9550 Intel Core 2 Quad 2.83 GHz, and nothing AT ALL shows on the screen during the boot. It's a (I know it works fine) XFX AMD Radeon HD 4890 1 GB. It's POST is three times. Any help? Would replacing the motherboard help?

Replacing the motherboard might help.

You can load CPU-Z and find out what kind of motherboard you have.

Otherwise, it is an old computer. If everything else works, I wouldn't worry about it. What few Core2 motherboards that are available new mostly use DDR3 RAM, so you probably would need to replace the memory also.

An inexpensive G41 board would run about $50 plus 4 GB DDR3 about $30.
