Flash drive not showing up in "My computer"

I tried all USB ports with no success. Computer does make the sound suggesting that the device is connected but nothing shows up on screen. I tried to connect other devices and they all work fine, I tried to plug the drive to another Laptop and it showed up there. It is reocgnized in computer management but not in DIsk drivers but in USB controllers as Mass Storage but it shows an exclamation mark. I tried to klick on drivers update but it doesn't work, it says that it found the driver but the access was denied 🙁 I'm desperate because I need that drive tomorrow for my school project, Thanks for any help. I have an HP 255 G1, WIndows 7 Ultimate

You need to assign it a drive letter.

Go to:
Control Panel
Admin tools
Computer management
Disk management

You should see your drive that you can't access. Right click on the drive header and select 'Online'

If it is already online, then assign it a drive letter that isn't already in use.

Now you should see it in your 'My Computer area' and you should be able to access it.

Try formatting it from another computer.

Have you tested the ports with other USB devices? You could try deleting the ports in Device Manager and then rebooting the computer. Windows should recognize the ports after the reboot.

I have, even with another flash drive I borrowed from my sister and it worked

What is the brand and storage capacity of the drive? Just wondering if a driver is available from the manufacturer.

it's 8gb and I'm not sure about the manufacturer, It's not printed on it, it has a logo of European Union on it but I suppose it's not Sandisk as my Sister's Cruzer works fine. I have a feeling it's a Kingston so I will try to download their drivers

I noticed access was denied when you tried to use driver update. Are you an administrator on that computer? If yes, have you tried running driver update as an administrator? Try right clicking and see if "Run as Administrator" is an option.

I am the administrator and I always run the "Manage Option" when I right click on "My Computer" as an administator since it has that icon there but when I klick the update options itself, there's only one option

What hapens if you try it after booting into Safe Mode? Not sure it will make a difference but may be worth a shot.

Not quite sure what to tell you to try next. Did you format the drive using a Windows 7 computer (not that it should matter)?

Now I'm quite sure it's kingston because I bought a brand Kingston new one, plugged it in and it said "Software wasn't installed succesfully" and it doesn't appear in "My Computer" either

I downloaded urDrive from their site but after installing, when I klick on it it says "This drive is not authorized for this software" even though it was the exact one I have on their website

also I noticed, that those two drives that dont work make a different sound than the one that works, liek it was signalizing some error while plugging, the new one also perfectly works on the XP Laptop and I formatted it there but it didn't help

Where did you purchase the drive? Could it be that it is a "fake" Kingston drive?

official local store, it says on kingston website that this error can occur and deleting registers could help but I deleted them and it still does the same

Running out of ideas here. The first link is from the Kingston site and though it may be a different flash drive model maybe you can find something useful on the page. The second link is a video on assigning a drive letter. I believe you have already tried this though.

it doesn't show up in cmd :/ I guess my PC detects it but as an unknown device and nto as a disk but when I can't update drivers I dont know what to do :/
