Flashing DVD Firmware

I'm thinking of buying a Sony DVD+RW/-RW Drive, Model DWU14A, OEM Bulk Pack. One of the reviews on Newegg says it's easy to flash the firmware to the Sony DRU510A which is a better model I think. How easy is it to flash the firmware? How do you do it? What do you think of the Sony DVDs?

I have a Sony DRU-510, works good. Though I cringe that I paid $300 when it first came out and now dvd burners are under $100.

There is no authorized firmware update, so flash at your own risk.
