I was leafing through the mag stack at the local Chapters when I saw an
issue of Computer Pilot. I was impressed with the production value; nice
colours, great pictures etc, and by and large it had a number of interesting
articles. However, I got the feeling that it was really heavy on the payware
and perhaps it was just this issue, but I didn't see much on reviews of
freeware stuff. Now I understand that magazines like this make money off the
advertising so perhaps it's not a surprise that it has this slant. I was
wondering if there are other mags or emags that have more balance with
freeware products?
thanks

I subscribe to Computer Pilot and the substance and content are quite good
from issue to issue. There are a lot of "How To" articles and great reviews
but I agree that the magazine is clearly focused on the payware addon market
which is fine with me. If you can get your hands on a copy of PC Pilot
which is a UK publication, I think you will find what you are looking for.
The magazine has a section each month featuring freeware addons with mini
reviews and download links.

I have been flying RA for about 25 years and I loved learned alot from
reading Computer Pilot magazine. It is very well written and accurate
in it's content and reviews.

IMO CP is an excellent magazine that adds to the enjoyment of flight simming.

We once ran a series highlighting popular freeware downloads called
"Freeware Frenzy".
I am happy to report that we are once again bringing this bi-monthly column
back to the magazine starting with the June 05 issue.
The column will feature short mini-reviews of good add-ons and utilities for
a number of simulators, as well as where you can download them from.

Terrific, and thanks for the update. I'll certainly have a look at the
magazine then.
