Folding while away is the best time, because then you don't have to compromise.

Sometimes I'm sitting at the computer deciding whether or not to game and there is 30 minutes left on a WU. Considering the points decline is massive for waiting, especially if you forget to start it again, then it's a tough choice to wait or not.

Now the 920 is only getting 10-12k PPD at best instead of the near 30k when I started, so it's getting harder to justify the cost(and compromise) of running such an energy consuming machine.

I will have to look into some way to remotely monitor/ set up shut downs at certain temps. Just don't want anything to happen while I am away. I currently use teamviewer, but would be nice to get just temps.

Just a little bit paranoid with other people living in the house.

Check out this thread I started awhile back
http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/323501-28-turn-computer-overheating-hwinfo

good way to have an automatic shutdown on overage of temps

Ah, if they overheat, that gives you an excuse to upgrade

Seriously though, if I am gone for more than a couple days I usually shutdown the desktops. The 4P I usually leave running as it is a server (so it should be reliable) and each CPU has 2 high quality fans so it should survive a single fan failure.

Hey guys, long time no talk-to. I'm finally back around, and have 3 new rigs folding away. Got some questions for the people who have stayed current on the folding. The first, and biggest: what am I in for when I go to upgrade from the 6.xx SMP client to the 7.xx? Any problems I should watch out for? Once I get that done, I'll probably pick some brains as to monitoring software for multiple locations, as I have several rigs around the country I'll load up, if I can keep half an eye on them. Thanks.

Betternesss, the 7.xx client is a lot better than the old 6.xx client.

@Beanoslim, I'll try not to teabag you on the way past mate but I can't (won't) guarantee nothing! :ange:

Well, if you haven't looked at the team guide then I would recommend clicking this link (also on the first page of the thread in-case you need to look at it again) :)

Has just about even you would need to know about V7 client from installing to using the advance features.

One of them you might be interested in is the remote desktop function. Control multiple computers with one client (even over the internet!).

What kind of hardware are you running?

I think it is funny how we add folders in the winter when everyone wants to turn on their space heaters.

And now that its colder here in the UK I would like my #9 spot back. 😉

 Go for it! I have already deployed my secret weapons and so see a F@H teabagging in your not so far distant future. :ange: :sol:

Setting up the Ubuntu V7 was actually a lot easier than expected. I just wonder, why do they separate the GUI and the client into separate packages?

As insane as that statement is, the more that 4P's are discussed around here the closer I am to rationalizing it. It used to be '$3000 for a F@H system, that is crazy' but now I am thinking 'Hmm... If I drop $8-900 upfront and then spend around $5-600 every few months I could have a bigadv beast within a year!'

Now I just need to figure out where to build my server closet....

Thanks king for the link, I will have a look through it tonight.

For long holidays I might just drop GPU and leave CPU running, unless I get a proper monitor running, just got my phone back so I can install android apps.

Also at some point I will ditch my stock cooler, a hardware upgrade will still be a while off. The temps in my case I am happy with, just need to dust regularly.

I did consider that route but settled on a cheaper option instead.

If you do go that route I will have to hunt you down and do disgusting things to you whilst you sleep so just settle down and keep the status quo.

Yeah except for the fact that the monkey has twice the GPU power that I do. Although it is easier to drop a $250 GPU into your PC than start a new rig. (Which is why I planned my build around SLI.)

I've got that i5-760 rig at work. It's my combo workstation/file server. Nothing fancy. i5-760 @ stock, 128GB Samsung 830 SSD, 8GB DDR3-1600. Home is more interesting. Got my i7-3600k @ 4.5GHz, 8GB DDR3-2133 and my HTPC rig: A4-3400 with 4GB DDR3-1866.

Out of town, I have an i3 3.3GHz w/8GB DDR3-1600, and a Phenom II 955 @ 4.2 GHz w/8GB DDR3-1600. More to come.

oh dear, first laptop GPU bouns WU's results I've found and the point are still high. (will probably make someone with a high overclocked desktop core i7 jealous)

Well I got my first 8057, on my laptop.

GPU 680m (essentially a lower-clocked GTX 670, GK104, 1344 shaders, 256-bit mem, 854/1800 core/mem)
TPF: 3m 45s
PPD: 60-61K

I sense a get shift in the folding hardware if the point system doesn't change. :ouch:

EDIT: found a 2nd set for mobile results:
