1..First post read as below...........
"Recently when trying boot up my computer first thing in the morning it has
taken up to 8 goes to get it started.
It starts the usual checking and quite quickly re boots then comes up with a
chioce of start windows normally, last known good config. , safe mode, etc.
I click start normally and off it goes rebooting, gets a bit further down
the boot process and reboots. Comes back to choices again. I hit last known
good config and it reboots and gets a bit further....etc. It will get to
first WINXP screen with users on it but then reboots from there. Finally
makes it after about 8 tries. Sometimes switches power right off and I have
to turn power off at mains, wait, switch mains power back on to get it to
switch on!!! A bit of a sick computer!!
Finally gets booted and is then trouble free, (see below for update). Have
tried pushing/wriggling
all installed cards plugs , sdram, etc."
2.. Nathan replied..... " would suggest trying a different power supply.
Also, are you able to
go into the BIOS and check the temperature? Try setting the BIOS back
to default and see if that helps too. If it is XP, you may want to try
a repair operation by booting off your XP CD, choosing to Install, then
press R to repair it."
3.. Update.....Reinstall has not cured problem when starting from cold. May
try BIOS reset......but....problem has worsened slightly in that on a very
few occasions computer has rebooted as I click on something even though it
has been on and running ok for some hours.! The last being a folder in OE6.
Very strange. Thought I would post this extra info just in case someone has
further ideas. Is this likely to be a hardware problem rather than software?
Is it possible to tell. Full virus scan done and nothing there.
