[citation][nom]dameon51[/nom]yes they are, let them be mad as we enjoy a faster OS[/citation]

Thats just it. This laptop had ubuntu and it was slow and crap. Installed windows 8. My laptop no longer revs up its fans like crazy. Win 8 It is very snappy and clean looking. Especially the desktop. Start Menu while It was good and was around for decades. It was good while lasted but now i don't care. Love the start screen. It is much better. Its easy to get to stuff too.

[citation][nom]warezme[/nom]Once again, Microsoft says, Oh our new OS is going to be a wonder for gaming but if you want games like Halo that originally started on the PC, forget it. Until Microsoft puts their money where their mouth is, they can stick Win8 up their a$$ as far as I'm concerned.[/citation]
if the Nextbox goes with x86 like the rumors are saying then it could very well mean that we will see a lot more coss-play between win8 PCs and win8 consoles. Perhaps have a minimum WEI score to enable Nextbox game installs? I am sure that hardware vendors would love to get a piece of that action. MS could get massive amounts of extra game sales, they could still charge an arm and a leg for kinnect for PC while making it free for Nextbox, and I think it would make just about everyone pretty happy.

[citation][nom]freggo[/nom]If M$ thinks that makes me upgrade some 50 business PCs to windows 8... well, guess again 🙂If anything, it will have the opposite effect.[/citation]

I'm fairly certain they don't expect to get many businesses to jump from 7 to 8 as most businesses tend to skip a generation or two before upgrading again. They are likely hoping to grab businesses with XP and Vista.

From a Clean install.

Win Vista was a resource hog
Win 7 is leaner than Vista but has minor glitches but could live with it.
Win 8 is on a diet and the glitches that were on 7 no longer is on 8

the problem is the gaming industry is tied into consoles. its their bread and butter. I wouldn't be surprise if gaming goes really cheap, free 2 play etc. When that does happens. You can definitely say good bye to high end gaming. Crysis is an example why games in general will never take advantage of the newer technologies of the API. I think the future for gaming is going to be like cable boxes or integrated tv's with "on demand gaming services". From what it looks of things. this is what the industry truly wants. Close it down. hence while consoles will never die.

This is why which i will admit Apple has done thus far when moving forward. Apple does not have to worry about legacy code or hardware. They can morph into anything it wants and people will go yay!

But if MS takes one breath. all hell breaks loose lol.

If Microsoft was not in the "Console" business. Maybe the situation could of been different. From what i sense is MS is competing within itself. But ultimately Console gaming is the reason why PC Gaming has taken the back seat.

Dear microsoft: SUCK MY BALLS!

This shit didn't work with DX10 and Windows XP. Remember how well that went?

Gaming support? MS has been crappy about that since vista. Where are all those XBOX360 games for the PC? Nope... nada. hence, NO Fracking need for Windows for a home computer. Any device can access the web, which is what most people do. I can do things on my new Android phone as well as my 2004 desktop... (minus the much bigger screen).

Not supporting a CURRENT OS by forcing people to buy some shit "new" OS is WHY nobody gives a rats ass about Windows H8TE.

[citation][nom]warezme[/nom]....but if you want games like Halo that originally started on the PC, forget it....[/citation] Halo started on the Mac. MS bought Bungie and started the ruination of desktop computer gaming.

[citation][nom]V8VENOM[/nom]Microsoft (as stated) have tried this tactic before and it never helped Vista. If nothing, all this does is make Microsoft look even more desperate. [/citation]

Wrong, DirectX 10 isn't even really Direct X. I suggest you actually look at the differences between Vista and XP, like HAL being removed.

I don't own or want a Smartphone, nor do I want my PC to emulate one.

MS just needs to relax and let people chose which UI they prefer, instead of being so dictatorial.

I'm sure W8 is good at its core (it's basically W7 anyway, with some nice improvements).

So why not let me decide if I want a Metro or Start interface?

I'll buy W8 as soon as I get some choice for my Personal Computer

[citation][nom]JacekRing[/nom]Again an invalid comparision. Even by your words, you say Win7 supports touch. It's like having a car with a touchscreen GPS, and then removing all other buttons and installing a bigger touchscreen to replace everything.Yes Win8 still has a (unusable, again in my and most power users opinion) desktop. Do you know how many icons I have on my desktop? 6. That's it, I don't like to have a cluttered desktop. And that's what Metro is, a CLUTTERED desktop. I like to organize my programs, and sort them into categories in the Start Menu. I don't have that option with Metro. Metro is like the android interface, it's good for a mobile device and sucks on a desktop.I will NEVER have a touchscreen on my desktop, NEVER. Why? do you ask. I don't need fingerprints on my screen when I'm playing a high resolution, fast paced game. You can see fingerprints clearly from 3 feet away, especially when playing a game with a lot of dark colors. Imagine Skyrim when your dungeon crawling, you'll see every single fingerprint on the screen.[/citation]

Now this is just nit picking and its sounding more of a personal preference. Ultimately you don't have to upgrade to 8. I have no problem with metro and been using win8 since day one. Never going back to 7. That is just my opinion though. Start Menu is overrated anyways. I don't have no icons on the desktop either. I have them in the task bar which are grouped by the way. and the most accessed programs on the metro start screen which are also grouped. I just like the fact when you boot up. All the icons are just right there and is a click away.

Secondly, who says about touching the screen anyways. For all i know it could be a kinnect thing which would be awesome for certain scenario such as movie selection, etc. The mouse isn't going anywhere if that is what you thinking. In fact i am having no problems using windows 8 with just the keyboard and touchpad. No screen touching here.

Sides its time for the desktop to change how one's interact with their computers. I be all for it if there was a laptop or monitors that has kinnect built in for windows 8.

Why should I have to tack some 3rd party junk on my OS?

Considering the low adoption rate of Windows 8 by people espualy PC gamers. And how pissed off most game developers are at Microsoft. We arent going to see allot DX 11.1 games.
And most benchmarks so little improvement over DX 11. so who cares

They tried it once with Vista and failed hard, by the time DX10 was actually becoming noticeably different from DX9, Windows 7 was on the market...

Heck, even today DX9 isn't horrible.

[citation][nom]jrm99[/nom]Dev Studios are hardly pushing DX11 features, will be at least couple of years before they even think about DX11.1 (hint: when will consoles support DX11.1? that's when we can get serious talks going about DX11.1)[/citation]
Next Xbox might just support 11.1. That'll be smart marketing on Microsoft's part. 11.1=11+performance optimizations, which will obviously be needed on the consoles.

Plus the Radeon HD 7000 series supports DX11.1.

But then since some features of 11.1 will come to windows 7 (read newer article on this), and 11.1 should require 11 as a base, i think it's a non-issue. Anyway, it's not like most games require DX11 to function. Very few. Those ones (like BF3) also support DX10. And this is a good 7 years after vista.

I think this thread should close as it no longer matters dx 11.1 is coming to windows 7. I also realized that this article states "For now"

/end thread

lol

[citation][nom]blazorthon[/nom]As others have stated, enough with this forcing bs. MS isn't forcing anyone to upgrade just because of DX. It took almost ten years for Windows XP's lack of native DX 10 to 11 support to actually be a problem and even then for people whom care, there are unofficial ways of getting DX10.1 functionality in XP (IDK if we've gotten DX11 working that way or not) and that alleviates the issues. Then we have Vista that isn't ten years old and it still got DX11 compatibility once MS had it ready for Vista.[/citation]

How is it my post got thumbed down when it agrees with other posts that have just as many thumb ups (even when they're right next to mine)? Logic doesn't seem to work well in this thread.

There's an extremely simple answer to your hate of Metro. Don't use it. The start menu is easy to get back if you want it and heck, if you hate Metro so much, you can go as far as to boot directly to the desktop (skipping the Metro screen) and even as far as re-installing Aero should you want to do so.

Windows 8s is still superior as an OS. The recent Web Browser Grand Prix here at Tom's proved that it does in fact have significant performance gains in at least some things compared to 7 (such as web browsing) and the many other improvements such as the task manager and copy/paste dialogue have proven highly useful to me.

Maybe you would't like it anyway, but you've given no reasons other than Metro and that's just ridiculous as far as I'm concerned because you don't have to use it to use Windows 8 just as well as (technically, better in many ways as has been proven by Tom's and others) Windows 7.

Besides, if clutter was your only complaint with Metro, then that's as easily fixed as removing the clutter that you don't want to be there.

Ahh, you're an IE user who doesn't use any non-MS software. Sorry, I didn't realize that anyone with such a viewpoint as someone who doesn't care about third party software such as Firefox/Chrome/Opera/other web browsers, games, non-MS office sweets, non-MS compression/decompression software, etc, would care about Windows 8 needing that for a start menu that has no functionality used by such people that isn't present in the Metro menu, sidebar, and hotkeys.
