Recently I purchased a new dvd pioneer 16x 32x.
for 2 days ago I inserted a cd to install a game and all of a sudden a strange noice begun, coming out from the dvd rom. 10 secs later the cd EXLPODED, yes EXPLODED, I'm not kiddin. A big bang and a piece of the cd came flying out to hit my leg. I anmounted the dvdrom and opened it to see that the cd broke into hundreds of pieces scatered all around inside the dvd rom.
It's not a joke...I couldn't believe my eyes and my ears. I didn't know what to think...

Nope, no crapy cd and no rejected disc....everything was going smooth on the reinstallation of Alice, new cd, 40% along the process...and BOOOMMMMM.....
I'll try to get a pic until tommorow....

Yeah, i'd like to see that one too. That's a 'slot-loader'?

I always get a little nervous mowing up leaves/twigs because there's usually a few small rocks out on the lawn too that bank off the fence back at me, but having to worry about your dvd putting your eye out?

wow.

Yep, it's a slot loader, (more like a slut I'd say after it xploded) It was the newest of pioneer kfor a month or so. It was working smooth and fast.

Does the drive still work? 😛

It depends on what you mean "work". Well now I can use it to break coconuts *lol* Tommorow I'm going back to the retailer to give it back, I'll take a picture of his face when he'll open the drive...

Before you do that PLEASE give us a pic of your drive... I've never seen one before and I might post it to guinessrecords for "The First CDROM to explode due to high speed CD spinning"

This site is cool.

Do you think that if I open it I'll void the warranty? Anyway I opened it for some secs just to have a look (couldn't take a pic at that time) and I saw pieces of the cd and the label all around inside the drive, couldn't see any obvious damage to the hardware (I opened it from the bottom/back, so I couldn't have a view of the spin area, except through the rails the laser eye moves on). Literaly, the cd was pulverised!!!

Er, I thought the explosion was so severe one look makes you jump. So, I think you should leave the drive alone or you wold need to shell out $$$ to get a new one. Anyway that xtra cash is good too... because no matter how much money you won't be able to get a drive with discs exploding out...

This site is cool.

"Anyway xtra cash is good....with discs exploding out" sorry machow, but could you please xplain me what you meant by that...

Could you please provide us with a picture of the exploded drive. I too would like to see this.

My CD-ROM drive came with a warning sticker on the front that says that cheap, cracked or dirty discs may explode at high speed. They go on to say that this may void the warranty.

It's a Sony drive... possibly you will have Pioneer try to pass the blame on to you, thus voiding your warranty. Just a heads-up for you.
