I've got windows xp installed on the c:, now I wonna clean my C: Bud XP will not format C: and there is no dos prompt anymore. How do I empty my hole c: ? Help

Create a bootdisk that contains the format command. They can be downloaded from here.

Change the boot order in the BIOS to start with the floppy drive. Save the changes.

At the A:\> prompt, type FORMAT C:

Agree to the warning message that the partition should be formatted, by typing "y" and Enter.

If you wish to install an older operating system, such as Win98, type FORMAT C: /s. This will transfer system files to the disk. This is not needed for Win2K or WinXP.

When you are ready to reinstall the operating system, change the boot order in the BIOS to CD-ROM, save the changes, place the installation CD in the master optical device, and follow the onscreen instructions.

If the file system on the disk was NTFS, you may need to use a utility from the drive manufacturer to zero out the disk. This will remove the partition and file system, and be necessary before anything can be visible from DOS. DOS cannot recognize a NTFS partition without expensive third-party software.
