Hello All
I have a 2.0 MB 3 1/2 Floppy disk that I saved information on at a public
library. I took it home to get information off of it and it says that the
material needs to be formatted. However it says that the only way it can be
formatted is if it is deleted and I can not loose the information that is on
it. Please Help

Get a USB flash drive or card reader.

Try running a check disk...
on my computer right click on the drive go to the properties/tools tab/error
checking/check now/put a check in both of the boxes and click start.

Should fix your problem(if your not going from a MAC to a PC or you don't
have a virus.

I am having the same problem retreiving data from my 3.5 floppy disk. I have
tried a check disk but keep getting the message to format the disk. The data
on the disk was saved in Windows 95 and I am trying to open the file now in
Windows XP. Could that be the problem.? Will I have pay to get data recovery
software?

Is the diskette cross formatted? If so you will have to dummy up the hole so
the drive detects it as it is formatted. ie formatted as 1.44 requires hole
in upper left corner, formatted as 720k no hole in upper left corner, put a
piece of tape over it.....
