Formatting CD/DVD videos to writeable

A CD/DVD drive came in my IBM laptop and plays video but I cannot copy a video to a disc. It reads but does not write. Can a install something to the computer or format to make it write as well? Thank you.

Your drive is CD/DVD not CD/DVDRW (rewrite)
