Tank Game = Battle Zone "I think"

That was great....

Anyone play the dogfight on the Silly Gs?

Silicon Graphics...

Indy II Extremes with Dual Head support for two 21 inch monitors (they were tanks themselves). At the time both monitors supported 1280x1024 res which was huge back then :).

Also got to setup/play with a few Silly G refridgerators.... Onyx machines, holy smokes they were fast for their time....

I run Linux and the monitor that I got with my computer was a Dell 2001FP, which needs a DVI connection to run well. So I got about the least expensive PCIe graphics card I could as it would be more than enough to handle things like Web browsing, office work, development, and the occasional movie. Linux isn't exactly the most published-for OS for gaming, and that's what a high-power GPU is really needed for. Sure, things like hardware-accelerated desktop rendering need a GPU, but XGL works just fine on a FX5200, let alone my much more powerful card (I bet some of you will laugh at the 6200TC being called "much more powerful  )

And if you wonder why I got a motherboard that supports SLi and got such a low-end GPU, I got the board because it was a very nice board at a very good ($110) price and the second PCIe x16 slot is good for things like SATA/SATA RAID controllers (x4/x8) as well as the usual use for a GPU.

I probably will end up replacing the 6200TC in a year or so when my brother comes back and retrieves his LCD to use with his laptop. Then I will buy another 20.1" UXGA LCD to match the 2001FP in spanned desktop mode and I'll need a GPU that has dual DVI outputs. I'll get- you guessed it- the least expensive PCIe unit that can do that. Right now that looks to be a 6800GT or something similar. It's much easier to do two monitors on one card than two monitors on two cards if you want to do spanned mode.

I just turned 31  and i've built two or three so far, but that's becouse i usually change some parts and not the whole computer :)
I'm from Macedonia( for the ones who don't know it is in the south part of Europe). I'm an Air Traffic Controller.
The first game? I remember the games on atari, the ski-jumps on commodore 64 with the tapes and the hours spent in adjusting the readers position with a small screw-driver  Good old days

I was an Air Weapons Controller (Air Traffic Controller for high speed Air Weapons "Tactical Fighters, Mission Support Aircraft and Refueling") for a while... I taught ATC/AWC for the Air Force for a little over a year before going back to Space Command..

Tough job!! Kudos to you!!

34 yrs of age and 15 builds on record (give or take a few). Only dual CPU's the last 7 yrs, which tends to limit them quite a bit. Didn't really get into this stuff til the C64 age.

Generally wasting my "productive" time working for an ISP managing somewhat poorly configured routers and switches

Wow!

Yeah, that would be awsome to work in Space Command!

To ches111, I've got an O2 that I've tricked out over the years, the wife uses it for 3d modeling, still faster with maya than her athlon 2200!

Im 19, iv gone through too many builds to count - i work in a computer store where everyone hates AMD  ill be getting my new conroe system soon.

Just out of curiousity, I hope that your shop doesn't limit itself in potential revenue by not selling/building with AMD?

lol just the other day we got in some semperon 2600's and 2800's - i think its a first

AWC is alot different than a ATC. AWC normally works with MUCH fewer aircraft and has to be up on Air Superiority tactics based upon the type of aircraft they are controlling. Judgments end up being just as quick but with differing impacts (am I allowed to use that word with this topic 😉). Not to mention that an ATC generally 😉 does not have to control in-flight refueling.

ATC is also very difficult because of the NUMBER of aircraft that could be involved (depends on the amount of traffic in/out of your location).

Both are great jobs for a limited time... ATC could drive ya nuts over time.

I saw a TV show a couple of years ago that talked in very general terms about the people, instrumentation and aircraft involved. It looked like a very coordinated effort to say the least. I for one am glad we've applied the right technology to our defense efforts.

Kind of interesting to be on both sides.

In Aero things tend to be older/proven tech.

In Space things tend to be bleeding edge/prototype/R&D tech.

Both were fun and both had their challenges.

1st build, when I was 13, was a 386sx, 640KB RAM, 4MB hard drive, and an EGA video card. Too many builds since then to keep track

You're the owner? -

planning on starting my own computer build/fix/upgrade and networking/setup/optimization and web design business - any pointers :) ?

My advice would be to work for at least a year in someone else's small shop. If you keep your eyes open, you learn a lot of valuable lessons about owning a business while someone else's money is at risk.

The business side is the easy part, when a customer gets pissed cuz you won't sell him a stick of ram for what his buddy got 4 months ago and the price has tripled since then, that's the hard part.

Course I also got an associates in business management and business administration, but it wasn't exactly hard :)

I know what you mean, what I meant about the business side was more like gaining/dealing with/keeping customers and how to handle issues like the one you mentioned above.

I guess I should have clarified.
