Forward Inbound PPTP

I am trying to move a DD-WRT VPN server router(R2) behind a second Linksys router (R1). R1 is connected to a cable modem. I cannot forward PPTP port 1723 on R1 to R 2's IP address for a PPTP client connecting from the internet through R1 to the VPN server(R2).

The configurations worked before with R2 directly connected to the modem. Linksys R1's diagnostic log shows a request for port 1723, but the request does not open. Is it possible to forward inbound PPTP with R1?

It should allow you to forward the port. One key thing to remember is PPTP also use PROTOCOL 47. The port 1723 is only used to setup the connection the actual data flows over the GRE tunnel. The top router must have a very special feature that allows this. Many times it is called vpn passthrough.

THANKS FOR THE INFO. I GOT IT TO WORK BY ADDING A STATIC ROUTE FROM R1 TO R2.
