Hello, i have problem about FPS Droping in GTA5 , from stable 60,70fps to 5fps and even 1fps, then again up 30fps and 60fps ... Its unplayable...

i have decent system to run gta5 on max

my resolution is 1360x768 / 60Hz / (running with DVI adapter to VGA)
CPU: i5-4690K 3.5GHz (stock intel coler)
MB: MSI z97 GAMING 3
GPU: MSI GTX 970 4G
PSU: Corsair RM650x
HDD: 3-4years OLD HDD (Seagate) ModelNr: ST1000DM003-9YN162 1TB / 7200rpm
SSD: No ssd.
RAM: 1x 8GB HyperX Blue DDR3/1600Mhz

So basicly yea, my gpu and cpu and mb and Psu is NEW just recently installed everything.. 2-3days ago...

And yea its happens also in NFS2015 sometimes but not so much like GTA5, running 60-70fps and drops to 20fps then again 60fps...

But GTA5 is unplayable.

I was readin that HDD can cause Laggs, also i have only 1stick DDR3 8GB / 1600MHz mybe its ram fault?

Hmm

when im in GTA5.
GPU temps: around 45-57
VRAM Max usage: around 2.5GB
CPU Temps: 55-67-64 its staying in 60c+ with stock cooler.

I was thinking buying new HDD
1TB / 7200rpm WESTERN DIGITAL CAVIAR BLUE

Mybe i can run some tests to my HDD to test it?? i have

SeaTool for Windows, but i dont know which test should i press there are some,

Thanks-
Evoo

There is a difference in a successful read and a read that does not take long to do.
Your earlier image showed a current read error rate of 117 and a threshold of 6.
That smells to me like the drive is eventually reading data, but taking many retries to do it.

This may have nothing at all to do with your drop in frame rates.
Possibly there is a game patch.
Look at the game forums to see if you find any clues there.

A single stick of ram operates in single channel mode.
But it should have minimal impact on performance; that is not likely your issue.

Yes, Samsung EVO 750 240gb is very good.

its passed SMART test

I might suspect that the game is taking an occasional checkpoint.
5400rpm drives are slow.

For that, a ssd will be much better.
Regardless, you will really like how much quicker everything is with a ssd.
Look for a Samsung evo. If the new ssd can hold the contents of your hard drive, you can
Use their ssd migration tool to copy your c drive to one of their ssd's.

Hey geofeit.

No its 7200rpm it was my writing mistake.

So i just checked with SeaTools ,its passed SMART test..

what test should i do else?
i read that some people , make some Write/Read test to see if there are some BadSectors. or something

But i dont know anything about HDD Tests so any help would be much appreciate

The smart data should include some stats on sector retries.
If a update encounters a weak sector, it may spend some time retrying the operation before reallocating the sector and moving on.
I do not have such an app, that reformats the hex data to be readable, but google should find one.

Regardless, you will find that a ssd is one of the most satisfying performance upgrades you can buy.

this is some Write/Read test. i think
but is it good?

about SSD, i will think about, right now i want to know if my HDD is in good health.

It looks like the read error rate is exceeding the threshold.
I would convert to a ssd and then try to do something with the hard drive.
If it is still under warranty, try to RMA it.
If not, you should be able to do a reformat where all the ssectors are checked and the substandard ones reallocated.

For a ssd, I would only buy Samsung or Intel for reliability.
The cheaper or older units may have some issues.
Samsung evo 850 would be my choice.
If the 750 evo is significantly cheaper, it is ok.

So its mean my HDD is semi-okey? But then why i have so big Freezens and FPS drops in GTA 5 and some other games??? i dont have even 1080p.

Mybe its my ram? I really need to know. 🙁 if my HDD is okey, then last thing is RAM ? Mybe i need 16GB ram. I dont know. 🙁

Is this good? budget SSD

SAMSUNG SSD 750 EVO 250GB ?

Solution
Just tested GTA5, Runed Benchmarks all Stable, 70-80 droped to 50 but it was V-sync: OFF (and my Computer is 60Hz)

So yea, just played gta5 SP, and turned on V-sync: on 60fps stable. no drops

Only thing , do i need V-sync : on or off ?
with 1360x768 / 60Hz /

Also, i shipped already 2x8GB DDR3 Ram, Savage. because when i monitored GTA5, my ram was 7GB use, its prety HIGH , if i have only 8GB.
