Question FPS drops in all games

Recently I started playing MC again and I noticed that my game wont run above 65 fps with shaders on. While usually it runs with 80 fps. Also it sometimes drops to 40 or even 30 while just playing. I thought it was only MC but today I saw that it was doing it in D2 as well, here it runs on 60 with drops while normally I would get around 100. I didn't make any big changes in software or hardware that would cause this problem. I only recently deloaded my pc by holding the power button while it wasn't plugged in.

My specs are
Intel i7 9700k
Gigabyte 1660 Super Gaming OC
16 GB Adata XPG 3600mhz
Coolermaster MWE gold 650 Watt
Gigabyte z390 Gaming SLI

I suggest running a canned benchmark or two to get an idea. Personally I like to use 3DMark as a baseline since they have a big repository of results with all sorts of hardware so you should be able to get an idea of expected performance. If you use 3DMark at the end of the run it will give you clock and usage graphs which can show potential issues there with CPU/GPU.

I dont think theres anything wrong with them. At least from my point of view.

Hey there,

Is your ram in dual channel mode? Is it 1 x 16gb DIMM or 2 x 8gb? Make sure XMP is on in the bios.

Yes. I flashed the bios. It's now running F11. Clearing CMOS is just taking the little battery out of my motherboard right?
Take battery out (when system is powered off and disconnected from power source and all other cable are removed e.g. usb, etc). You then typically short two pins on the mobo, which are marked CLRTC. Once done, put the battery back in, and reboot. Your first screen should direct you to the bios, rather than load the OS. Once back in bios, switch XMP back on, and then reboot and test.

Did all that. Its more stable, but the issue of low fps isn't solved. Still 40 - 60.

This would indicate to me that there's no hardware reason for whatever performance issues you're noticing. That would mean to me its either a software or potentially storage issue, but I'd lean towards it being software.
I know it isnt hardware. But on the software side I also wouldnt know what it could be.

Games change over time when they're continually updated which could be the case for the two you mentioned. You could also download the latest video card drivers, use DDU to completely remove the existing drivers and then reinstall the video drivers.

If you have a different storage device you can install to you could try that.

When performance problems aren't affecting everything it makes it rather hard to pinpoint.
