[SOLVED] FPS Drops

Guys - I am at a loss here. I am experiencing FPS drops and I cannot diagnose the root cause. The FPS drops kick in after about 10 - 15 mins of gaming. I will see FPS drop from >200 to 50-100 FPS. Importantly I am not seeing any thermal or power throttling at all when monitoring through Intel XTU and Afterburner. GPU temps are sub 70c. CPU temps are sub 85. I have undervolted the CPU - that is the only tweak I have applied. Can anyone advise what I need to do to diagnose what might be causing the drop. Once again I have ruled out thermal/power throttling.

My rig: Alienware Area 51M. Nvidia GeForce RTX 2080. Intel Core i7 9700k CPU @ 3.6GHZ 16GB RAM. Less than 6 months old. BIOS updated a few weeks ago which I am mildly suspicious of!

Once again I have ruled out thermal/power throttling.
You only did that if you made sure that the CPU is keeping the clocks it should.
Low temps don't mean anything it's all about the clocks staying were they should be staying, actually 85 degrees could also be a motherboard safeguard temp were it starts to clock down the CPU to prevent damage so you could maybe never get any temp higher than that.

Also CPU temps are sub 85. I have undervolted the CPU that is not a good combo.

Yeh - I have had a response on another forum. It turns out the vbios (the BIOS update remains the suspect) will throttle back the GPU if temp exceeds 79c. I tested this a number of times and sure enough that was exactly when the FPS was dropping. Don't really know why Intel XTU did not report throttling. So now I am looking to repaste the CPU/GPU. In the meantime I am running the machine with only one power cable - this is starving the GPU of power and keeping temps down - FPS on max settings still > 100.

@TerryLaze - "Also CPU temps are sub 85. I have undervolted the CPU that is not a good combo" - what did you mean by that? That I should not be underclocking?

Thks.
