Hey guys, before I go into it, I have looked in many forums, threads and locations and I haven't found a single one that has helped my situation at the moment.

I have tried updating the graphics driver, BIOS and all that but I can't seem to find out what is actually wrong. The PC doesn't overhead, there are no programs running in the background and there are no viruses (As far as I know as I have checked several times with several programs).

When I attempt to play games, I used to run games with atleast 60 FPS with reasonable high settings but now I get around 20-30 FPS if I am lucky on low settings.

I don't know why but with my old TV, I could turn off the screen and turn it back on and I would get my original FPS back. I don't know how this works or why this works but I can't use that TV anymore. I have tested other monitors (1 TV and 2 computer monitors) and still the same problem.

Specifications:
Alienware x51 (I know they suck, don't remind me)

Intel i5-3450 CPU @ 3.10GHz
Windows 8
6GB RAM
64 Bit Operating System
2 Display Drivers: Nvidea GeForce GT 640 and Intel HD Graphics

If you need anything else, please let me know but I am not a technical person so please go easy on me, thanks in advance!

That's definitely a software problem. Try looking at different programs and turn them on and off to see if it is forcing lag onto your computer. If not, use Malwarebytes, viruses sometimes don't cut it.

Hello, thanks for the quick reply. The only programs that I have open are Spotify and Google Chrome (And Steam if I am testing one of the games on there), shutting them down didn't fix it at all. I have tried Malwarebytes with a full System Restore at some point but that seemed to not do the trick.

Which games are you trying to run...?

I have tried the following games in no particular order:

Remember Me
Skyrim
Black Ops 2
Borderlands 2
Blade Symphony
Devil May Cry
Orion: Prelude
Payday
Lost Planet 3
Left for dead 2
Crossfire

And a fair few more. It happens on a variety of games whether it is on Steam, Origin or installed onto my PC. I have tried many things but nothing seems to fix it.

your gpu doesnt really cut it anymoreand it's probably the thing causing performance issues does it overheat

and also what are games are you trying to run at the moment

It doesn't overheat also the games I have tried playing are above, there are more but I don't see a point to posting anymore as there is a variety there already. Also is there a main reason why it doesn't "cut it anymore", it used to run games fine and when it had trouble, I turned the TV off and on again and for some odd reason, I would have my original FPS. With this new TV, I cannot do that and it is getting to the point where it is unplayable.

Try updating your drivers. That may be a small problem. Also, Intel HD Graphics may be interfering with your Nvidia card. Try to find a way to disable it. And, did you do a malware scan?

I have updated all my drivers that I know of and I have done a malware scan several times. Would you know how to disable Intel HD Graphics, if not do not worry as I am sure I can find a solution online somewhere.
