Not to step on anyone's toes, but for non-pro usage you can do extremely well with free software in general.
Even on Windows I use:
- DaVinci Resolve for video, not FOSS but completely free and really powerful software, you likely won't scratch 1% of functionality
- Gimp, Pain.net for photo/image manipulation, both come with plenty of plugins
- LibreOffice came really far in both functionality and compatibility to be worthy replacement for Office home use
- Inkscape is great tool for vector graphics
- most high profile development tools these days are all FOSS, even likes of Microsoft Visual Studio Code that come from non-FOSS companies
Windows upgrades keep coming for free, I do have older copy of MS Office as well, but in recent years only software I buy are - ganes. And even that increasingly less, with Epic and GOG giveaways and lack of time to clear a 1000+ game backlog.
Btw yes, Humble Bundle is very legit, but be careful, I spent close to 1000$/€ on assorted bundles (though many years ago) because it's all so cheap, and you just start hoarding, even though you get like 3rd copy of Civilization III in the process, you've been warned, don't get addicted to bundle hoarding 🙃
And just since I'm already posting, those click bait titles do work but it's terrible to see on Tom's, quality went downhill... "finally enters release candidate testing after 20 years" .. really? I mean, 2.10 had RC in 2018 so while it took 6 years since then and did take 20 since 2.0, the title of article is so wrong. Next we'll see "Apple finally releases Mac OS after 30 years" because they've been on "10.x.x.x" iterations since 2001. Hell, there hasn't been new version of Windows since 2015, they're still struggling iterating the 10.x.x.x branch as well. Terrible... But yeah, at least I read GIMP 3.0 was coming along nicely. Thanks
