Hi,

Recently, like 1 month ago, I noticed that I have been started to experience freeze spikes/fps drops during gaming.
I've been monitoring these problems since. Nothing has changed with GPU nor CPU temperatures.
These fps drops happen usually when I'm moving in-game, from location to another, change camera angle OR
when something specific happens, although it's still random. Let's say, if someone hits me in game like Dead by Daylight, freeze spike
is most likely to occur. My PC is like 3-4 years old.

Here is my PC
CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 3700X
CPU cooler: -
Motherboard: ASUS PRIME B450-PLUS (BIOS version 4402)
Ram: Corsair 16GB (2 x 8GB) Vengeance (CMK16GX4M2B3200C16)
SSD/HDD: Samsung SSD 860 EVO 500GB (and KINGSTON SA2000M8500G)
GPU: ASUS DUAL RTX 2060 SUPER EVO V2 (NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 Super)
PSU: -
Chassis: -
OS: Windows 10 Home
Monitor: HP X24ih

Age of my PSU is same as other components, been actively used for 3-4 years. I bought this PC as brand new, assembled by company which sells PCs in my country.
BIOS version is latest available.

I have not used DDU, but I have used it before, so I am familiar with it. I started to solve the problem in different way.

So if anyone have any idea how could I dig even deeper into this problem or monitor even more my problem, any help would be appreciated!
If any questions, please ask.

Had to continue here because of spam filter:

So, what I have done and how I started to solve the problem:
- I started to monitor my FPS, GPU temp, CPU temp, RAM usage, CPU usage with MSI Afterburner & RTSS.
- I removed ALL dust from the coolers, no change. Did it affect my GPU/CPU temperatures? No.
- I had like 3 years old BIOS version, updated it to the latest one, no change.
- I did some RAM stress test with y-cruncher, no errors.
- And finally, I tested my second SSD. I wanted to see if the problem persists there, and YES it does.

Edit: It might be that freeze spikes occur outside of gaming, as well, randomly. But mostly it seems to happen when I am launching a software or load website page. As an example. If I open Spotify artist page on browser and then at the same it opens up the same thing on my Spotify software, it MIGHT cause freeze spike. I didn't think this earlier, but yesterday I noticed that my mouse cursor (and screen) froze in place for half second. Although, I think it doesn't freeze out of nowhere, something must be done, like as I said, launch software, load something. CPU or GPU issue maybe?

try "sfc /scannow" in cmd
Replugging monitor cable
Turning XMP Profile on/off in BIOS
Turning Turbo Core on/off in BIOS
Reseating pc components like GPU and RAM
I do sfc /scannow from time to time. Don't think it's case, I can try again.
Replugging monitor cable I have done, can try again.
XMP I turned on, it has been off since I bought this PC. (no change)
I have no idea what is turbo core.
What you mean by reseating (resetting?) GPU and RAM?

I'm newbie (mostly)

Turbo Core dynamically adjusts the clock speed of the AMD CPU (similar to Intel's Turbo Boost) . Your CPU's base clock should be 3.6MHz but Turbo Core can pump it up to 4.4MHz when extra performance is required. Very simply put - dynamic overclocking.

By reseating I mean physically remove and then reinsert it

I'm a newbie too and I'm pretty sure I have the same problem as you, nothing helped so far but try these methods anyway, they are easy

Ah, okay, thanks.
Need to check that Turbo Core setting(s) out.

GPU and RAM I have reseatted already, because they were "most obivous" reasons for those spikes. (especially GPU).

Thanks for your help. I keep monitoring this problem. I say if I find anything that works.

Actually I am not sure about this Turbo Core setting on my BIOS. I don't find it. Or at least it's not named like that. My PC isn't laptop, if that's the case. All I saw was AMD Overclocking (there was a warning when trying to enable it) and OC Tuner but that's it. OC Tuner was interesting one, but I didn't touch it because it changes my settings.

I changed PC's power plan from Windows settings, tho. It used to be AMD Ryzen High Performance for a long time, but I returned it to Window's Balanced (Recommended), because needed to give it a try. Nothing major changed, unfortunately, but I am gonna keep Balanced for now.

I even played for several hours a game, and kept swapping between HDMI and DP cables, to see if it has something to do with cable. But there wasn't any major differences. And results aren't even so accurate 'cause I can't pay attention on freeze/lag/stutter spikes all the time (kept eye on graphs from Afterburner+RTSS during playing), but sure thing is that with either cables, I have them.

It may be called "Core Performance Boost" actually

Yeah, changing the power plan to "High Performance" is mostly a myth and even if it does help a tiny bit, it's only a crutch

Your freeze spikes happen mostly when something new loads/renders/happens for the first time, right? (like someone hits you in DbD) I'll try to swap RAM and disconnect my old SSD and see if it helps my similar problem and I'll let you know

Alright, need to see if I can find similar thing, but mostly like I won't, don't remember seeing anything like that, BUT I can be wrong, and I'll check again.

And yeah, I think that's when spikes happen, usually. Sometimes game maybe loads something new or renders even if I don't notice anything visual change, then I get a spike, too. Then again, I have random situations with ex. Spotify, if I open something new (browser page on Spotify) or something too fast, my mouse/screen freezes for a moment. Maybe it's connected to in-game spikes, maybe not.

And alright, thanks.
